I used to pretty much hate Smash, but have a newfound appreciation of it while playing with my 6 year old. It’s a pretty neat game when you aren’t playing with a bunch of try-hards

Then don't forget that The Silver Case Ward 25 is coming out next week (supposedly - some old ass Gematsu story is the only source I can find on it, while I can't find confirmation elsewhere, including Amazon - even though reviews came out this week).

Packed up all my Wii U hardware and accessories to transport down to my storage facility (AKA the 'rents...) Except I decided not to pack my Smash GC controller or the adapter, since they both seemingly work with the Switch OS now and Smash is coming this year.

Why do I have to link a second Nintendo Switch app to find friends on it? Couldn't they reuse the app I already use to share images? Ugh.

Otherwise pretty neat. Wish they had YouTube uploading though.

Switch GOTY Gal Gun 2 is out in glorious Nippon today.  It runs in full English if you want to get your perv on before the late April release date here.  I thought this was going to use the joycons for light gun style shooting, but instead the game play has been changed up a bit and it feels more like something between both an on-rails light gun shooter and a FPS.  You have to move between set points, but you can turn in shoot in 360 degrees and can peek around corners if you're behind something.  They also added a vacuum mechanic to your gun where you can suck up little demons that fly around the girls.  Not gonna be surprised if this leads to clothes getting vacuumed off.

Yet another great game has been released on the Switch. Kirby Star Allies.

It's a bit easy sure but it looks very nice and the music is amazing.

If you liked any Kirby game ever, you'll love this game.

Yeah, I have it on order.  There have been a lot of weak Kirby entries but I still have great memories playing the shit out of Kirby's Adventure during summer break when I was a kid.

I've only ever played Kirby's Dreamland 1+2 on the Gameboy as a kid, but those were great games, particularly the 2nd entry. I remember how long it took me to collect all the stars or whatever they were, to reach the secret endboss behind King Dedede.

The demo reminded me that I don't really enjoy Kirby games that much. Loved Dream Land 2 and had a good time with Super Star Ultra, but the series overall isn't for me I think.

Shame, cause I'd love to play a new 2D platformer on the Switch. Guess I'll have to wait for DKC.

I got it and have started playing it.  Hoping it is as good as the two previous 3DS games.  The 30 fps is a bit jarring at first, but I guess they did that to account for having up to four characters, enemies, and other stuff going on in the stages on-screen at the same time.  Hoping this will have some challenge to it but Kirby is a game made for younger players so who knows.

I love the character and Superstar is one of my favorite games on the SNES but the series has gotten so many mediocre entries that I fail to give a shit.

The last couple were really good, though.  This is made by the same team.  My problem with Kirby is how it pretty much fails to ever really change.  Even a really good Kirby is still the same old Kirby.

Kirby Adventure and Superstar were the best, all the Kirby platformers afterwards were just lame glorified map packs. The best you can expect from the series is experimental games like Canvas Curse and Mass Attack to be good.

That reminds me that even Superstar wasn't just normal Kirby. It had like a whole Metroidvania in it and some section with Megaman progression.

Last year they automatically loaded some raid RPG Kirby on to my 3DS. That was fun until the F2P brick wall. I also played the demo of Roboto Kirby, but that just felt like more Kirby 64/Wii/etc :yeshrug

I've played quite a bit of Kirby Star Allies and well, it's pretty much the typical 2.5D Kirby game that we've been playing for the last 15 years.  The ally system isn't very great or adds a lot to the game.

A solid 6/10 game like all the other console Kirby games the past couple of generations.  Don't buy it at full price or skip it, you're not missing out on much.

Random: Hardware talk time. Remember those third party docks killing Switches and chargers not working and stuff?

All on Nintendo. They completely fucked over the USB C Power Delivery spec. There's barely a single negotiation where Nintendo adheres to specification. It's a small wonder these things don't implode.

https://plus.google.com/102612254593917101378/posts/2CUPZ5yVTRT (not me)

It's an interesting read, despite being stuffed to the gills with USB C spec talk and jargon.

I ordered another original Nintendo charger as bedside power supply. Not gonna take any more chances. I like sleeping while not on fire.

Got Rocket League instead. The resolution at times gets ridiculous but there's a patch coming in a week or so to fix that.

Overall great fun in split screen, which is why my brother pressured me to buy it instead of Bomberman I guess.

Beat the game and the game says it is 79% complete.  I'll do what I can to get the remaining 21%.  The minigames that get unlocked are very unambitious as well.  All in all, a standard 2.5D Kirby game as mentioned above.  I wasn't expecting anything different but I can't recommend anyone getting it at full price or even getting it at all.

Which I think is kind of funny given how he has shit all over certain games lately.

I know next to nothing about Jim Sterling so I can't comment.

The problem with the last couple generations of Kirby console games is that they're painfully unambitious.  I liked the first several Kirby games (Adventure, Dreamland 1 and 2, Super Star) and at some point, Nintendo decided that those games were too challenging so they went the other way and made these games brain-dead simple because I guess their target audience of five year olds (or whatever) can't handle anything other than an extremely linear game.  As mentioned before, some of the handheld Kirby games that are more experimental tend to be better.  The Kirby franchise has serious potential that Nintendo/HAL for whatever reason just refuses to utilize.

With Star Allies, the gimmick is three additional players or CPU and they don't add much to the game except for some moments where they fly on a star or form a circle or something.  These tend to be gimmicks and you can only do them in a few locations throughout the whole game.  I think the idea of having multiple characters around to solve puzzles or progress through the game would be a good idea but again, the utter lack of ambition means that they don't outside of a small handful of situations.

Going to play Ultra Street Fighter II next!  Then I see that the last DLC pack of Fire Emblem Warriors is coming out on the 29th so I'll revisit that and finally finish the game.  Looking forward to getting back into it.
