NES games are pretty much garbage if you didn't grow up with them, or are really hardcore.

Imagining getting my daughter into gaming with one of them is laughable.

SMB3 basically still holds up... But that's pretty much it.

I feel like trip list they have is pretty decent... But they're still NES games

SMB1 is not great, the jumping feels soo floaty and throws you off when you are used to the "standard" Mario physics SMB3 established :yuck

Castlevania I+III are still great though :smug

I believe smb1 has more momentum to it than 3 and anything newer.

Other than it gets outrageously difficult at the end and modern tv input lag,Punch-out still plays well too.

IMO they still should have had this ready at launch and included a sampling of games across the history of their system.

SNES library is just so much better than NES.

I got my nephew into gaming with NES games. The controls are just the easiest to learn. Took like 2 years for him to get used to dual thumbsticks.

Note that you can download the Famicom game app from the J-eShop and use it on an American account.  Has the same games as 'Murica right now, but that may change.  Some games are different though- like Zelda is the Famicom Disk System version (supposed to have better audio) and Super Mario Bros. 3 is more difficult than the American version.

I don't think I'm going to pay for online which now makes me realize that my copy of Splatoon 2 is pretty worthless. That game was pretty fun for quick spurts of online battle, but I never played it constantly.

Looking at HLTB, it seems if you do the bare minimum, it's 7 hours:
https://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=19217

I could be mistaken, but on WiiU, I am fairly certain I put in more time and was 2/3 the way through.

It's a pretty "chill" game for the most part and not something you'd want to rush through.  Doing everything takes longer.  It's worth playing.

If you're not the type to solve all the puzzles on a given map, it's probably not worth it at full price. There's 82 levels, with each having 3 items to collect. There are optional items on most levels, which can be much more difficult to figure out. If $40 for 10-15 hours doesn't make sense for you, no matter how polished and enjoyable, then definitely skip.

For me, it's totally worth the asking price. The game is gooooood. I love the artstyle, the progression, the puzzles--in fact, just about everything. There's enough variety and difficulty to make it a stellar title.

Also keep in mind that Nintendo rarely discounts their 1st party titles.

It's an expanded minigame from a mainline Mario platformer, I'm not sure how substantial I'd expect it to be.

Nintendo Switch online

Pay money to:
- Use your own internet connection to play P2P online
- Use the smartphone you already own and pay for to call people
- Pay to play online games such as Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 you could play for free before
- Play NES games over HDMI you already bought with an overpriced emulator box last year
- Buy 2 NES controllers for 59,99 from the Nintendo Online Store which will never discount anything and the controllers will only work on the NES games

Super Mario Party
- Play games with your friends but only with ludicrously expensive Joy Con. None of your Pro Controllers are supported.  :doge

I mean I just think that means that game isn’t selling all that great.

Things like Super Smash Bros Wii U are still like $60 in store.

I mean a $15 dollar discount on games that came out a year ago doesn’t really argue against my point that Nintendo games hold their value. Especially the major popular ones.  If anything it supports it.

Cave Story has great gameplay though.

I just started Undertale as well and don't see what the fuss is about after the first hour.

To be brutally honest, the first hour is a slog. I totally get why someone would be turned off. I almost put the game down myself as I had already played through when the demo was released years before.

It has charm but is also way overhyped by a zealous fanbase. Best thing to do is go in without any preconceived notions about what it is.
