Last week I did okay. I was shocked and eventually angry but I accepted it quickly.

Bannon being appointed as chief strategist though made me have a panic attack at work. That was the moment that made me cry because I was legitimately terrified my and family's safety.

Though in defense of Breitbart, I think using the "Renegade Jew" headline is a bit disingenious if the goal is to prove Bannon antisemitism. The article is written by David Horowitz which identify itself as a jew and it mostly peddles the -sadly not unusual- view that Kristol is a "race traitor" facilitating the imminent extermination of his people for not falling in line with Trump, the Republicans and/or Israël. It's incredibly shrill & dogmatic but maybe not antisemitic, though the inflammatory headline probably also tingles the funny bone of bigots in many different ways.

 :leon :ufup

:larry Was too tired when I wrote that.
Goes without saying that Horowitz being a jew doesn't make the article any less dumb.

Am I the only one here worried about the actual real world threats of going to war with iran and destroying the planet with climate change rather than the gay-rights boogeyman?

No one is going to make sodomy illegal and start sodomy police squads.

I'm worried about the fact they're thinking of a Muslim registry.

I'm worried they have a white nationalist as second most powerful man in the WH and will have the POTUS' ear and influence policy.

I'm worried that the Vice President is a historical anti-LGBT demagogue who believes in conversion therapy and has been noted in telling corporations to not hire "the gays". The fact that I am a trans woman during a time when republicans - the same party who thinks HB2 was a good thing - has controls of all aspects of government frightens me and they have actual power to effect me and my communities lives. Adding to this they are trying to make it harder to obtain birth control and healthcare for women. Does this include hormones for trans individuals? A question to certainly ask, because without hormones many will be driven to suicide.

I'm worried that BLM will be labeled a terrorist organization, which I occasionally participate with.

I'm worried that Trump values "loyalty" above all else at the expense of valued and respected republican leadership that didn't support his candidacy. He has a group of loyalists and many aren't willing to play ball with establishment republicans which they will use to force loyalty and dominance on to the rest of the party. This is the first step of fascism: forcing "enemies" to bend the knee or face consequences. Once he has the party under his control because they are too cowardly to fight him in fear of losing their "base" they will have even more power - especially in a republican majority government - to inflict terrible policy.

I'm worried about my Latino friends and deportation, although I was strongly anti-deportation for non-criminals and families during the Obama admin, so that issue is big for me.

I'm worried about the fact that if democrats concede one more state that the Republican Party will have the power to alter the constitution uncontested.

I'm worried about the Paris Agreement and Trump's climate change denying administration which could push carbon emissions to a no point of return of its not already there in the pursuit of money from lobbyists.

I'm worried about foreign policy especially where Russia is concerned. I'm worried about Mexico. I love Mexican's am friends with many. I'm worried about Syria and hope things go well with Asaad but Trump's relationship with Putin puts this under scrutiny. I'm worried about China's response to America. I'm hoping the unprecedented risk of anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim rhetoric will help create bonds and a reach across the aisle for the two religions but it's wishful thinking. I'm worried about the rise of European fascism in response to this election. I'm worried about our relationship with Germany.

I'm worried about someone like Trump, as disorganized and ignorant he is of the duties of the office he holds, having access to nuclear codes.

I'm terrified and not one issue bothers me. It all scares me. All Noam Chomsky said in truthdig, the republican party is currently the most dangerous organization in world history. Concentrating on one issue does not due this entire thing justice.

Also I'm less worried about climate change because the leaders that signed the agreement say you can't back out of it and they are proposing that America be forced to take up a carbon tax if they do not honor the agreement. So there's hope there since we know republicans hate taxes. But it's definitely an issue. Basically, we have world leaders there to cockblock republicans on that, but there exists a possibility I might lose hormones due to anti-LGBT policy under an all republican majority.

Iran deal is far more worrying.

James what do you expect people to talk about? Right now, world leaders are telling trump and his aides they can't get out of the deal and if they do there will be consequences. There's hope there.

Meanwhile, we have his aides suggesting a federal Muslim registry and they appointed a white nationalist to the wh.

What are you expecting? Also, I haven't really read many musing about the status of abortion or gay rights. As of Sunday, the entire conversation has been on Trump's aides and potential cabinet picks.  Worrying about abortion and gay rights is kind of a week ago thing.

I actually share your concerns, as a Western European, about Trump foreign policy. But I think US citizens must be as vigilant with both the big and small things, however we may each rank issues. Trump already damaged the standard of transparency by not submitting to the disclosure of tax returns, an healthy tradition. There's already concerns he's not sticking to formal and informal protocol. Still minor for now, but violating due processes and bending rules (even decorum ones) can be hurtful to democratic institutions.

“It was arrogance, arrogance that they were going to win. That this was all wrapped up,” a senior battleground state operative told The Huffington Post.

Several theories have been proffered to explain just what went wrong for the Clinton campaign in an election that virtually everyone expected the Democratic nominee to win. But lost in the discussion is a simple explanation, one that was re-emphasized to HuffPost in interviews with several high-ranking officials and state-based organizers: The Clinton campaign was harmed by its own neglect.

In Michigan alone, a senior battleground state operative told HuffPost that the state party and local officials were running at roughly one-tenth the paid canvasser capacity that Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) had when he ran for president in 2004. Desperate for more human capital, the state party and local officials ended up raising $300,000 themselves to pay 500 people to help canvass in the election’s closing weeks. By that point, however, they were operating in the dark. One organizer said that in a precinct in Flint, they were sent to a burned down trailer park. No one had taken it off the list of places to visit because no one had been there until the final weekend. Clinton lost the state by 12,000 votes.

To be fair, it's human nature to only try really hard when pushed. There was never really a moment in this campaign where she was in real danger of losing, even when some negative bombs came out, she seemed to weather them. Even the Obama/Romney matchup felt closer leading up to the result than this one did.

Some sure but I can imagine some criticism coming from various people, Obama vets, etc. Let's say she won and under performed in the midwest still, including losing key senate races (Wisconsin). Hillary limping to a victory and dems not retaking the senate would have been ugly.

...but much preferable to this :snoop

Everyone's saying now she should have spent more time and resources in MI/WI, and maybe?  But she pretty decisively outspent Trump in FL/NC/PA/OH/IA and lost all of those.

Seems like the overall message (hammering Trump for his misogyny and intolerance) was basically ineffective, and gets my tentative vote for Biggest Strategic Fuckup.

imo her "strategy" makes her message even more insulting. Here we have candidate who championed women and minorities with a lot at stake, with house minority and senate minority for her party. While championing our us and our rights and inclusivity she gambled our lives away by making the most extreme candidate in modern US history into a pied piper so she could normalize his views to the public and in the open, so she could defeat him in the general with the flawed premise that American people would vote for decency. Instead of working for votes, she thought they were guaranteed because of who she was and who Donald Trump is. Personally, as a black bi trans woman - her target demographic - I find it insulting that she would risk harming the very people she claimed to stand for with a complacent campaign for president.

Whether she would have won or not, the amount of details coming out is incredibly damning to me and the fact she was willing to risk it like this almost makes me not want to support another Democrat ever again if not for the fact the Republicans are 1000000 x worse and that I have to remember that there are far more better people and campaigners in the party.

At the very least, it makes me happy for not contributing to her gaining the candidacy and I'm very proud of my Bernie Sanders vote in hindsight.

The only source in that story is a memo from the DNC in April '15, with literally no followup reporting on how it was ostensibly executed. Given that the memo came from the wikileaks hack, you'd imagine there would be lots of further emails coordinating the plan, etc.  Besides which, we all just followed the campaign in real time. Trump was leading the polls from the day he announced and his rallies were broadcast uninterrupted on cable news from the start cause he drove ratings. Is there any reason to think he was given a platform because the DNC/Clinton campaign was manipulating the situation?

How much would this criticism of Hillary's campaign been made had she narrowly won the election?

A lot of the usual places would be dismissing a lot of the issues of her campaign had the queen secured her throne.

Considering people thought she was gonna win in a land slide for some bizarro reason, I think if she'd squeaked out a victory there would've been some handwringing, but it probably would've been lost in all the YASSSS QUEEEEN.

Then no one would learn and the Republicans would win in 2020.

I really think she lost a lot of ground with the Deplorables thing. I have a feeling that even people she didn't intend it towards rallied under that banner because of their distaste for her and what she represents.

President-Elect Trump first suggested creating a registry for Muslims last November, and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach told Reuters on Tuesday that Trump's immigration advisors were drafting a proposal on how this could be implemented.

Carl Higbie, a former Navy Seal, told Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly that he thinks a proposal could pass, citing Japanese internment camps during World War II as a precedent.

"You can't be citing Japanese interment camps for anything the president-elect is going to do!" Kelly says.

"Look, the president needs to protect America first," says Higbie, "and if that means having people that are not protected under the constitution have some sort of registry until we can identify the true threat and where it's coming from, I support it."

President Obama in Athens :

Quote
“The current path of globalisation demands a course correction,” he said. “In the years and decades ahead, our countries have to make sure that the benefits of an integrated global economy are more broadly shared by more people, and that the negative impacts are squarely addressed.

“When we see people, global elites, wealthy corporations seemingly living by a different set of rules, avoiding taxes, manipulating loopholes … this feeds a profound sense of injustice.”

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/nov/16/obama-calls-for-course-correction-to-share-spoils-of-globalisation

I guess it's probably the direction the Democratic Party will be steering ? I don't disagree but people are waiting for more than just lip service on the matter.
