They hired a company to smear their critics with the Soros conspiracy theory and they pressured the ADL to label criticism of Facebook as antisemitic.

That's chutzpah.

Just a couple of Jews stirring up a little anti-Semitism for money...

While Mr. Zuckerberg has conducted a public apology tour in the last year, Ms. Sandberg has overseen an aggressive lobbying campaign to combat Facebook’s critics, shift public anger toward rival companies and ward off damaging regulation. Facebook employed a Republican opposition-research firm to discredit activist protesters, in part by linking them to the liberal financier George Soros.

Do you guys remember when Facebook made a lot of noise that they were fighting fake news

Sandberg was also furious at employees looking into Russian influence without permission saying any evidence would make the company look bad.
https://www.recode.net/2018/11/15/18095967/facebook-new-york-times-story-mark-zuckerberg-sheryl-sandberg-fired
Quote
The story claims that Sandberg was angry when she first learned executives were digging into Russian election meddling without permission in early 2016, and was later an advocate internally for keeping critical information about that investigation out of the public eye.

Quote
This section of the story about the company’s decision not to name Russia in its first public white paper about the incident summarizes how both executives came across more broadly throughout the piece:

If Facebook implicated Russia further, Mr. Kaplan said, Republicans would accuse the company of siding with Democrats. And if Facebook pulled down the Russians’ fake pages, regular Facebook users might also react with outrage at having been deceived: His own mother-in-law, Mr. Kaplan said, had followed a Facebook page created by Russian trolls.

Ms. Sandberg sided with Mr. Kaplan, recalled four people involved. Mr. Zuckerberg — who spent much of 2017 on a national “listening tour,” feeding cows in Wisconsin and eating dinner with Somali refugees in Minnesota — did not participate in the conversations about the public paper. When it was published that April, the word “Russia” never appeared.

Admitting the truth makes you look like you are siding with the Democrats.

Perhaps big finance and world leaders should've not shoveled percentages of their GDP to Silicon Valley and their private data theft operation because computers in the cloud are cool.

Perhaps.

How the fuck does LEGO not have a trademark on the basic design of a lego figurine that prevents people from legally making knockoff legos?

It’s not like they don’t use the LEGO figures in tons of promotional shit, or tv shows. Did they just not defend it?

they did, but the patents expired and they didn't have that disney clout to extend them perpetually. it's the patenting system working as intended, i guess.

Looking forward to a week of spin about how the Sessions firing is completely unrelated to Mueller before Trump just blurts out the truth in front of a camera.

The only good thing Cernovich did was head to the DNC to show the protests and how the progressives were shut out from the nomination proceedings.
That's what got him his followers too. He was basically the only guy outside on the streets showing the fence around the DNC and the protestors trying to get in.

Otherwise he has always been this weird awful creep that doesn't shower because he's addicted to the smell of his own piss, shit and vomit.

since it's late 2018 might as well start talking about the 2020 candidates now. from npr:

Senators
Cory Booker of New Jersey
Sherrod Brown of Ohio
Kamala Harris of California
Kirsten Gillibrand of New York
Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota
Jeff Merkley of Oregon
Bernie Sanders of Vermont
Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts

Representatives
John Delaney of Maryland (declared)
Beto O'Rourke of Texas
Eric Swalwell of California

Governors
Steve Bullock of Montana
John Hickenlooper of Colorado
Jay Inslee of Washington
Terry McAuliffe of Virginia (former)
Deval Patrick of Massachusetts (former)

Others
Former Vice President Joe Biden
Businessman and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York City
Attorney Michael Avenatti
Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles
State Sen. Richard Ojeda of West Virginia (declared)
Activist and philanthropist Tom Steyer

surprised sherrod is on this list pondering a run tbh

The case for Brown is pretty straightforward: he keeps winning elections in Ohio while running on economic populism, so the hope is he'd connect with WWC voters in the midwest while still being acceptable to the progressive wing of the party.

Downside is you're probably conceding a Senate seat since no other Dems are winning statewide there, and there was an old accusation of abuse in some divorce proceedings that were unsealed (though his ex-wife supports him now and denounced his opponent for trying to use that).

Yeah, the case for him has always been strong, I just thought I remembered him signalling pretty strongly he was not interested in running for president, and in a believable way, not the way Gillibrand said it while having puff pieces about her written in the New Yorker. I wonder what Sanders does if Sherrod runs.

Anyway I checked to see who's leaking to politico and this Joaquin Castro guy is thinking about running? After failing to snag the VP spot? I feel like 2020 is going to be filled with all of these wet towel Dems who think just being anti-racist is enough to win over voters.

I just wrote a long post about how Obama fucked Castro by making him his secretary, and then just realized there’s two of these fuckers and they are brothers.

I would vote for Sherrod Brown but IMO there is a really narrow path for a cishet white dude to win with the current dynamics of a democratic primary.

You basically have to either get the backing of the neoliberals or the Bernie liberals and ignite passion from some demographic group that transcends their base policy preferences.

Hillary locked up centrists and women and black people.

Obama Locked up progressives and black people.

The only path for Sherrod brown (or any white guy) in 2020, IMO would be some kind of trump like strategy where you have a strong loyal plurality in a lane you have to yourself  in a really crowded field otherwise. I don’t think Sherrod brown has the cult of personality to pull that off.

I think Bernie has an outside shot at a strategy like that, but alsothink the superdelegates would work to prevent nominating him  unless he won an outright majority.

Joe Biden might be able to put together a coalition that works with an Obama endorsement.

But the above dynamics make me think the most likely nominee is Kamala  Harris. Black + woman + shrewd enough to st least play lip service to a lot of Bernie type of ideas. I do question her grandstanding though. Her line of questioning on Kavanaugh was really dumb. She tried to play it like she knew something but was bluffing.

Idk, from a purely political standpoint, I’m not sure there is a better candidate on that list than Beto(I reserve the right to change this opinion).

Has that Obama/Trump Rorschach quality to him, appeals well to the base, makes moderates feel safe, has some of the best charisma of the bunch, recognizes the importance of mobilizing urban areas but loves to put effort into connecting with non-urban voters, seems to be inspiring people to want to come and work their ass off for him.

That has typically all been a successful recipe in the past for Democrats.

Trump had a spectacular run of presidential campaign fails until he won. No one even remembered that shit.
he never actually ran though, the only time he actually even entered was the Reform primaries in 2000 and he dropped out before they were held

Lincoln was the last person to lose their way into the Presidency along the lines Beto would, short-term Representative who lost a Senate race, then two years later won his party's nomination for President (then won the Presidency despite not being on the ballot in half the states)

since it's late 2018 might as well start talking about the 2020 candidates now. from npr:

surprised sherrod is on this list pondering a run tbh
he just had a spate of stories promoting it:
