Older people are on average more hostile to LGBT rights. That's true across basically every poll about this since they started asking questions. And it's not like young people in the 80's were super-liberal on the subject and it was just a matter of older cohorts dying out.

Older Democrats in the year 2019 supporting an especially nonthreatening gay candidate isn't shocking, but the fact that it's not a huge surprise is a testament to how rapidly public opinion moved on the issue.

Sadly, christmas tree prices are up. Used to be you could get a big boy for $19.99, but the empty corner lot the group used to set up on is now a CVS

how many steps can you make in any direction before running into a cow?

Sadly urban sprawl has made it harder and harder to come across cows. Used be there were cows within 1/4 of a mile from my moms house. Now? 1.5 miles to get to the cows. Llamas are gone too.

Are you going to assassinate him or what breh

He never spends time in the district, youd have better luck finding him if you lived in DC or near a Trump residence.

come one bruh, get real. Everyone knows that older people trend more conservative and more bigoted.

Quote
In 1999, 11% of 65+ favored gay marriage. In 2019 that number is 47%. The biggest jump of any age bracket.

Quote
oldest Americans (those ages 65 and up), nearly two-thirds are at opposite ends of the typology. 32% fall into the two strongest Republican-oriented groups (what we call Steadfast Conservatives and Business Conservatives) and 33% are either Solid Liberals or Faith and Family Left, the two strongest Democratic-aligned groups

Quote
Top White House officials and Senate Republicans agreed that a full trial should be conducted if the House impeaches President Donald Trump, according to multiple people familiar with the matter.

A group of Republican senators met Thursday morning with White House counsel Pat Cipollone, counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner to discuss impeachment strategy.

Two attendees said that the White House wants the Senate to hold a trial of some length and not immediately dismiss any articles of impeachment with the GOP's majority, as some Republicans have suggested.

ToxicAdam quotes agrajag saying that older people skew more conservative and antigay, and refutes this with two links which... show social conservatism and antigay sentiment being directly correlated with age.

No, I clearly showed that baby boomer democrats/liberals are a thing and they have dramatically shifted the demographic in the past 20 years.

But I guess we're just supposed to pretend these people don't exist anymore ?? It's important to keep stereotypes alive and push back against any nuance when having a discussion. It's a weird hill you want to defend, Mandark.

It's not nuance, it's numbers.

In 1999, the 50-64 age group's support of gay marriage was at 31%.

The 30-49 group, a mix of boomers and gen x, is at 39%, much lower than the 18-29 age group that same year, and also significantly lower than the 65+ group in 2019.

Which is a good illustration of the two important trends: every cohort has moved towards gay rights as they've aged, and the younger the group the more they've favored gay rights (true across all age groups in every year). Gay rights did not break through in the Obama years because a particular generation that had been pro-LGBT since the 1980's finally wielded power.

There was a similar event a couple months ago in Iowa for Joe Sestak. But I think it was like five people showed up, one remained uncommitted, the rest remained for Biden/Sanders/whoever.

The Democratic debate confirmed it — we’ve entered the ‘Bernaissance’  :rejoice

Quote
In 2016, Hillary Clinton was firmly my candidate. There were reasons. For one, I was in the zone of the first female president. That seemed like something meaningful. Mock it, sure; I’m trying to tell the truth about how I felt then. For another, burning the whole place to the ground didn’t feel quite so urgent. Yes, President Obama had his issues, but I remembered George W. Bush, who had capital-I Issues. Clinton seemed the more electable candidate, and I was under the mistaken impression then that polls meant more than throwing a handful of glitter in the air and seeing where it lands.

Add to that Sanders’ refusal to cede the race for so long — divisive, I thought — and the patronizing, vicious manner of some of his supporters. I get their frustration now, sort of, as my own politics have moved to the left these last four years.
