Impeachment has always been purely a political process. The first impeachments failed because the Republicans attempted to impeach judges purely for being Federalists. Both the prior impeachments of Presidents were political theater. Johnson was impeached for violating a law they passed specifically to make him violate it so that Benjamin Wade could be elevated to the Presidency. In both impeachments they originally started with an absurd number of charges (up to treason in Johnson's case) and narrowed it to blatantly obvious undeniable crimes and while Johnson surviving was a surprise there was never any doubt Clinton would. In their rush to do this NOW NO WNOW NOW wait wait wait not yet OKAY NOW they yet again have done this in a  nonsense way that was never going to go any other way.

They should just vote already on the conviction since we know it's not going to pass.

The Des Moines Register's editorial board will announce its endorsement for Iowa's Democratic Party presidential caucuses at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.

The caucuses, the first presidential nominating contest in the nation ahead of November's general election, are Feb. 3, and 12 Democrats are staging noteworthy campaigns for the party's nomination.

The editorial board invited candidates to meet at the Register's offices for formal interviews. Nine current Democratic candidates who have spent considerable time campaigning in Iowa accepted the invitation, as did several candidates who have left the race, and two Republicans who are challenging President Donald Trump, the presumptive nominee in his party. The Register is not endorsing in the Republican caucus race.

On Tuesday morning the Academy Award-winning actor officially endorsed Bloomberg in the 2020 election, telling PEOPLE that he “hasn’t been this excited” about a presidential candidate since John F. Kennedy.

“I feel so blessed that in this particularly difficult time that we have one of the greatest candidates in the history of our elections,” says Douglas, 75.

In his view, Bloomberg offers “a rare opportunity to coalesce and bring us back together, get rid of all this horrid, negative scare tactics that are going on, and the fact that he’s succeeded to the degree that he has is phenomenal.”
