It's hiliarious to watch the Russian stooges and bots now.
They have to convince their followers of at least three things:

- Syria shot down most of the US Cruise missiles (false)
- The UK gassed Skripal themselves (false)
- Trump engineered this (perhaps set off the chemical attack himself) to divert attention from Cohen (false)

 :doge

They're trying to save themselves with a new bullshit story that according to a Swiss lab the Skripal gas was sourced from either the US or UK.
And here I was thinking that the British deep state was behind it all.  :lol

It's certainly an act of war for most purposes (if it happened to the US I don't think our leaders would make that distinction), but yeah, it's very different from an invasion/occupation.

Certainly takes the air out of the false flag story, unless the CIA/MI6 would fake a chlorine attack as part of an elaborate plan to justify two hours of bombing.

My big worry is that Trump will notice how much good coverage he's gotten for Acting Presidential both times he's ordered a strike, and extrapolate that to a bigger, messier war.

I don't find the false flag (by the US/UK anyway) story believable but I will admit to being a bit skeptical that the US national security establishment really knows and understands wtf goes on in Syria ... it wouldn't shock me if leadership were overplaying the certainty of shaky intelligence, etc. Just my priors as a not super well informed observer

A solid reminder that Trey Gowdy is and always has been a piece of shit.

In case it’s not implied well enough:

- So if Rosenstein turns this over he gives the Trump team some of the most important direct evidence against him for obstruction and allows their team to adapt accordingly.

- If he refuses, for what would be completely justifiable reasons, you just created a new concocted rationale to fire Rosenstein.

Again, fuck Trey Gowdy.

The Oklahoma teachers strike ended without them getting their full demands (but still getting a $6k annual raise). The Colorado Democratic party told Democrats For Education Reform to get stuffed.

The momentum seems to be swinging back away from charter schools and similar "reform."

Something worth keeping an eye on:

https://twitter.com/MikeScarcella/status/985542978876923904

Specifically the person pushing the Supreme Court to broadly answer this question of whether the president can fire most executive officers as he sees fit(and pushing an argument in favor of doing so) is Noel Francisco.

Who is Noel Francisco? He is next in line if Rosenstein were to be fired. He would be the one overseeing the investigation. He seems well respected, and has been seen overtly dining with Sessions and Rosenstein in what pundits believed to be a sign of unity, BUT he also has argued against the power of special counsels and taken on what I would say are controversial cases and positions that advance executive power arguments and would be pretty welcome to Trump. Like arguing in favor of George W Bush’s pretty blatant firings of certain judges who wouldn’t tow certain lines or in support of broadly interpreting powers to justify things like Bush’s torture programs.

On the one hand the case is significant because if they do rule broadly and likely extend that power to Trump(as I have read, John Roberts has almost always come down on that side in the past and in his personal views) it would give him the clear authority to directly fire Mueller and have the Supreme Court to point to as cover. On the other hand if Francisco is more to the side of the concerning aspects of his character, it probably won’t matter because he will be a Trump enabler anyways. But the likelihood of the Supreme Court ruling on this case more broadly the way Francisco is arguing seems low, and I would think the gravity of firing Rosenstein would pressure him into not being such an enabler, but it’s still worth watching.

Yeah Kentucky also seems to be gearing up for some shifts as well. They forced an override of the governor’s veto on additional classroom spending, and apparently up to 60 teachers are ramping up for running for various state offices, mostly as Democrats.

It will be interesting to see if this momentum sticks past an election cycle or two, or like I’ve seen happen in my state, the rubberband effect of anti-incumbency on small Democratic inroads and Republican obstructionism stalls and sometimes snaps things back to almost worse than before. Things do feel somewhat different this time though.

So we’ve shifted the script from this was a false flag by the deep state to set off a full scale invasion/occupation to enrich the insatiable military industrial complex

to.... the deep state’s ultimate goal was just hoping a multilateral bombing campaign to strike chemical weapons supplies would give an opening for a sultry French man to woo the US  president to maintain a meager stasis of operations in Syria.

Not gonna lie, the sequel is much less epic or interesting than the original. The love interest plotline seems fairly underdeveloped. Perhaps tacked on due to a lack of a more compelling narrative drama or antagonist plot for audiences to latch onto. It definitely leaves me feeling the deep state cinematic universe is shaping up as more DC than Marvel. Without even a Wonder Woman to show for it.

I agree. Military drama is much better when it involves the actual complexities, layers, nuances, and competing self-interests of those people and institutions involved. It provides a much richer and accurate to life story I find.

It’s probably the core critique I have of the Deep State Cinematic Universe. It bills itself as non-fiction inspired writing, but lacks an understanding of the layered dynamics and complexities interwoven in the subject matter. So you end up with these simple narratives that are too far removed from reality to be accurate, but not quite fantastical or original enough to be compelling fiction on their own terms.

I’m sure you’ll keep workshopping it, but if I’m honest, I think you need to find better muses and consider challenging some first principles your holding onto with these topics. In order to hopefully better inform your future writings.

The Deep State cinematic universe looks a lot more realistic than the W.DC one, imo. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the Deep State villains have actually orchestrated various events all over the globe, from Nayirah's testimony that started the first Gulf war and fake CIA evidence about WMDs that started the second to Obama arming religious lunatics in Libya and Syria to jump start civil wars and then help the "rebels" to spread democracy (lol)

Plus in this W.DC cinematic universe the heroes look like fucking idiots. I mean, they keep trying to help the helpless but each and every time they end up slaughtering them all. In the last episode they managed to create a supervillain called ISIS that they had to fight too. At least Tony Stark didn't know that Thanos was involved with Ulton when he made it, the American heroes in this universe must realize by now that arming Muslim extremists is bad since they've done it so many times.

So. many. times.
