Quote
Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya was a Russian government informant when she met with Trump campaign officials at Trump Tower in 2016, she admitted in an interview with NBC News slated to air Friday. She had previously denied she had any ties to the Russian government.

“I am a lawyer, and I am an informant,” she told NBC News, according to a New York Times report. “Since 2013, I have been actively communicating with the office of the Russian prosecutor general.”

why are we not talking about our godking president going on fox and friends this morning and basically having a 30 minute dementia rant
We just call that Thursday, sweetie.
Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway told the hosts of “Fox & Friends” on Friday morning that President Trump wants to come on the show regularly.

“The president has said he would like to perhaps come once a month and as news breaks,” Conway said. "He’ll keep us guessing.”

Conway appeared to catch the show’s hosts off guard, who asked her to clarify that she meant he would come to “Fox & Friends” once a month.

Wonder what hungryboob's gonna do.

A) say "I told you so!" cause some random texts are super clearly code
B) let us know that the really damning texts haven't been released, because Trump and the deep anti-state don't want to show their hands yet
C) forget this (and Pelosi's secret NK arms deal) and move on to the next iteration
D) quarantine himself in the Wank Dad thread and rant about lipstick

Hey Benji, remember when you kept going on about how Russian propoganda’s influence is overstated? And let me just say I actually sympathize with that viewpoint, but unfortunately I must now present to ourselves exhibit A and B, Optimus and Nintex.

....Quoting a year old out of context clip about a military spending bill presented by a Russian state media satellite group he follows and apparently blindly trusts on Twitter. One that tries to obscure that connection and is clearly hiding the inherent economic context of the clip because with it you would naturally be less outraged that always astute Jeopardy master Wolf Blitzer is asking Rand Paul a seemingly boiler plate jobs follow up question to Rand’s response about why he doesn’t support the spending bill by way of using his opposition to funding the Saudi/Yemen war as his initial rationale. Which it is also probably a good place to interject that the Russians are allies with Yemen and have sold the Iranian government weapons that get funneled to Yemeni allies they support while regularly vetoing UN objections to those Iranian actions so they can continue making those sales.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
But leave it to Optimus to unironically quote and swallow a state propoganda satellite trying to drum up outrage and opposition to aide a bunch of geostrategic weapons clients as evidence that it’s the US establishment media that are just shell organizations for the deep state and war-for-profit companies.

Does anybody really take Wolf Blitzer seriously other than old people who accidentally changed the nursing home TV to CNN instead of Fox News?

Also, yeah, it's funny that this was well covered a year and half ago when it happened but is now suddenly spreading like wildfire across social media as if it's something new and incredible.

The latest hot take everyone's yelling about is a blog post on how sex life inequality might be as bad as income inequality, so if people want to redistribute wealth, why not also sex? Comes from a dude who wrote a post a few years ago on "silent, gentle rape."

Aaaaand he's an economist. Who teaches at George Mason. I have some thoughts on this and they're all super judgmental.

I’d never even heard of Michelle Wolf until this.

The thing about Joy Reid that annoys me is that a lot of people on the left are ready to forgive her for her comments even though she made up a fake hacking story to cover it up. I think that’s the part that really shows her true character.

i liked that she went after the women in the administration. Trump is constantly being shat on by the likes of Colbert, Seth Meyers and company. Her actual standup is very female, feminist centric so its no surprise she chastised women failing women.

It’s honestly both incredibly frustrating and incredibly impressive how good the Republicans are at working the refs and how much many otherwise great journalists will fall over themselves to placate to it because they seem to fear nothing more than being labeled biased.

So you end up with shit like Maggie Haberman crying over some jokes at Sarah fucking Sanders expense and writers at the Washington Post playing right into the White House/Fox News narrative of this proving their year long assault on the free press because a comedian performed a relatively tame roast on the person who has spent the better part of a year trying to undermine their legitimacy.

They did over Norm and Colbert too. Every year they talk about "nerd prom" like it's some grand democratic institution and as if anyone outside D.C./The Corridor seriously cares about it other than if there were good jokes that get replayed in the news.

It's only since the 1980s that the current version even came about and that was because Reagan had all his old Hollywood friends come out and set it up like a roast. And Clinton really liked that so he had them always invite comedians. Before that it was just a boring dinner where they gave out awards and stuff to people retiring, the President rarely showed up. (Ford "technically" started that since he used to go as a House member, he also started the joke speech which probably should have ended when he did with "I'm Gerald Ford, and you're not." But Reagan probably couldn't resist an opportunity to tell jokes to a captive audience.)

I mean the Republican party working the refs is not a new phenomena. Nor reporters placating to it. It's just that once you get to the absurdity of the Trump administration juxtaposed with what was actually said, which was far tamer than Colbert for instance, or even Norm, hearing all these reporters and pundits catastrophize over some soft ball jokes looks even more farcical than it has in the past.

I think the partisan frame is the wrong one to use here as a focus. They hate that Trump skips it because it means nobody cares enough (because it doesn't "create" news) for them to incestuously cover it. Now they get to cover it, or rather THE CONTROVERSY, while Trump gets the benefit of being outraged without having to actually attend. Even better for everyone is that they can be outraged on behalf of the women instead of Trump who nobody but Sean Hannity wants to defend. High marks all around. The "deep state" aligned media couldn't have planned it better. :delicious

Wake me when we move past the pomp and pageantry we've seen going back to the 80's with North Korea and start getting actual nukes dismantled and an ongoing(and ironic for Trump) Iran style 3rd party control and verify system is agreed to by all parties and North Korea doesn't just pull a repeat of 85, 92, or 00.

If a deal to both end the nuclear program in North Korea and end the Korean War goes through, that's the end of the Kim dynasty.

I mean there is a world where you can allow the Kim regime a promise of self preservation through economic relief and guarantees of no hostilities if they completely denuclearize(not just shutting down sites, but dismantling all their weapons) and play nice with inspectors. It's been on the table for decades. Through almost every presidency.

I just see how we have been down this road before. And I have yet to hear anyone make a convincing case for why we should assume this time is or will be different yet?

I mean this is a story repeated no less than 3 times now. The details are a little different but the broad strokes nearly identical. North Korea proliferates in ways that catch international ire, international pressure mounts, they go through a few years of "landmark moments" like signing onto the NPT and opening up the doors to inspectors while the US makes a semi good faith effort to begin drawing down naval vessels and denuclearizing around the peninsula, providing economic aid, only for North Korea to play like Saddam and undermine those commitments, claim it's the US that is the guilty party and suddenly its off to the races. A few blinks later and next thing you know we are back to square one and North Korea is building more nukes and advancing their missile systems even further.

Trump needs to inform all these losers about a little thing called history. Go in there and tell them how you can't "end the Korean War" as none of the belligerents ever declared war. Both Korea's consider it a localized rebellion. China was "never there" (just ask the guy who fabricated intelligence for MacArthur for an outside example) and the UN intervened in an "internal conflict".

North and South Korea don't even recognize each other as autonomous/sovereign territories let alone states. The North's traditional refusal to do so for the South (which has often offered to jointly) has been the stumbling block in a lot of past agreements. There's a practical reason too, not just stubbornness, it means giving up their legal claim on the rest of the peninsula. And also changes the context of any military actions against areas under control by South Korea.

I admit my anarchist and academic biases in that I feel that much of standard Intro to International Relations courses should mostly be replaced with a case study about the Korean peninsula since 1910.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A mystery is brewing at the White House about what happened to the oak tree President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron planted there last week.

The sapling was a gift from Macron on the occasion of his state visit.

News photographers snapped away Monday when Trump and Macron shoveled dirt onto the tree during a ceremonial planting on the South Lawn. By the end of the week, the tree was gone from the lawn. A pale patch of grass was left in its place.

Who knows what happened. Maybe Kim's sick or dead and his sister is using a body double to try and make a deal before the generals figure out what's what.

Maybe Putin gave Kim the pee-pee tape as leverage.

In any case some things just don't make sense if this wasn't a genuine effort on the part of North Korea.
Including meeting the head of the CIA.

Dennis Rodman is ecstatic his friends, Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump, are getting along ... especially because he believes he played a big part in bringing the peace.

We spoke with the basketball Hall of Famer about North Korea's newfound friendliness with the U.S. and its historic summit with South Korea ... he tells us it's simply been the result of open communication and good old-fashioned diplomacy.

Rodman also points to his June 2017 visit to N. Korea -- in which he supplied Jong-un with some of Trump's books -- as a catalyst for the dictator's change of heart about the Prez and the American people.

Dennis is clear he doesn't want to take the credit for the good vibes happening right now ... but he can't hide his joy in the role he played.

If we are being cold and cynical and looking at this through the prism of recent history and North Korea strategy, this all fits fairly comfortably within the pattern North Korea has engaged in for the last several decades.

After pressure mounts, they stand down for a while, make a whole bunch of promises and photo-op style moments like sending diplomats to Washington to negotiate de-nuclearization and bringing media crews in to watch inspectors shut down weapons sites in the midst of promising a denuclearized peninsula and better relations with the South and the West... Only to see things break down over and over again. Though perhaps, and hopefully, things can end up being different.

But to look at this responsibly, it will likely be years before we know if that is the case. Very hard to see this fitting into the Trump season 2 arc.

Because there is a very real world where Kim agrees once again to inspections, diplomatic agreements are signed for both sides to draw down and de-nuclearize, aid channels opened up, China normalizes relations like they prefer anyways, and Kim, like they have done every time in the past, slowly starts skirting those obligations, diplomacy hits some rough patches and breaks down, things get frosty, China waffles on re-instituting the totality of prior sanctions, and we are back to Kim throwing random mahogany desks out on air strips and more photoshopped missile tests.

To be fair they roasted his fat daughter.

I think we're getting to the space where everyone feels the rift between the government and press has gone a bit too far and Trump is ready to dump another barrel of gasoline on the fire.

That's pretty tame, the Donald is scared of getting into a roasting battle with her. Sad!
