Richest country on earth and our imbecile politicians dance like puppets to the strings of Israeli and Saudi puppet masters.

It's bizarre to see happen in real time. I think most people knew AIPAC had influence over Congress, but the reaction is insane.

I have returned to provide midwestern wisdom from a middle class, working white black man.

1. Candace Owens is a great example of what happens when you don't read anything outside of curated social media feeds and some wikipedia sentences. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she didn't mean she'd be fine if Hitler had simply killed Jews in his own country instead of invading neighbors. Fine, I'll give you that. But how the fuck do you argue Hitler was a globalist?
:mindblown

2. I don't like Kamala Harris. I'll vote for her if she's the nominee but her record as a prosecutor isn't appealing to me at all. And frankly I feel like if she was white we'd be seeing some think pieces from black authors about how she built her career punitively punishing black and brown people in California.

3. I've spent the last 5-6 months trying not to laugh as certain people I know told me that the Trump tax cut was going to provide them with huge tax cuts. I explained the issue many times and people did not believe me; part of this is just the typical bias against experts/professionals, but I think another part was the everlasting belief certain people have in Trump. They don't see the grift, even when it's right in their face.

Well it's tax return season and now people are realizing...yea, you got hosed. My parents are pretty happy, as business owners. Rich people I work for are happy. I'm not mad. But normal people (especially single/no kids)? You got fucked, especially if you live in a state like California or NJ or NY. I fucking told you distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.
 :neogaf

4. Speaking of the grift...I think the true damage to Trump is that the midwest (overall) has seemingly realized they got conned. Republicans were decimated throughout the midwest during the midterms, especially in Wisconsin where tariffs are killing multiple industries. Trump has no path to 270 without the midwest.

Next time a Trump-inspired schizophrenic burns down a synagogue we're going to get a bunch of media takes about the dangerous climate of antisemitism on the right AND the left because there's nothing the media loves more than symmetry.

The car debt bomb is going off soon

Quote
A record 7 million Americans are 90 days or more behind on their auto loan payments, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported Tuesday, even more than during the wake of the financial crisis era.

Economists warn this is a red flag. Despite the strong economy and low unemployment rate, many Americans are struggling to pay their bills.

“The substantial and growing number of distressed borrowers suggests that not all Americans have benefited from the strong labor market,” economists at the New York Fed wrote in a blog post.

A car loan is typically the first payment people make because a vehicle is critical to getting to work, and someone can live in a car if all else fails. When car loan delinquencies rise, it is a sign of significant duress among low-income and working-class Americans.

As much as I appreciate having a clown show in office for the entertainment, it doesn't become so funny any more when a real crisis appears like a financial meltdown or a terrorist attack.

Hey, I'll still be kicking around the internet in 40 years when the climate is still roughly the same but a bit warmer in the arctic circle.  Then you can tell me how silly I am and show me yet another article telling us we have 10 more years left to do something about climate change.

The comment had more to do with the ridiculousness you exhibit around the topic.

A threshold of irreversible changes in ten years =/= humankind is going to be wiped out in ten years.

First it was the facts of the science you struggled with, now its seemingly the interpretations..There's a pattern lol

You gotta understand TA's a 90's Republican. Just as a Kobe stan can never reconcile themselves to the superiority of LeBron, he will never betray his roots and admit that Al Gore was closer to the truth on this than Rush Limbaugh. I respect the loyalty.

I was never a Limbaugh guy. I remember liking him while Bush Sr. was in office and he would crush Bush for decisions he made. So, I mistakenly thought this was someone that thought for himself and wasn't a party guy.

But, then when the 1992 election rolled around he was beating the drum for him the entire election. Like the previous 2 years had never happened.  I think he might've even done some photo-ops with him. That's when I figured out he was a hackfraud and never listened again.

It just illustrates the power of radio/audio in creating intimate relationships with the audience, that he can still have so many listeners after so many years of hypocrisies and personal allegations.

Evidence on the deterioration of natural systems is presented with a series of grim global statistics: since 1950, the number of floods has increased by a factor of 15, extreme temperature events by a factor of 20, and wildfires sevenfold; topsoil is now being lost 10 to 40 times faster than it is being replenished by natural processes; the 20 warmest years since records began in 1850 have been in the past 22 years; vertebrate populations have fallen by an average of 60% since the 1970s, and insect numbers – vital for pollination – have declined even faster in some countries.

AFAIK climate change denial didn't get a mainstream foothold in most of the other rich countries the way it did in the US (Australia being an exception). Anyone here ever read anything good looking at why?

First guess would be some combination of domestic fossil fuel industry, car dependence, and dedicated right wing media infrastructure, but that's me just throwing shit out there.

I'd throw us Canucks in as a partial exception too.  Most provincial governments are currently held by conservative parties, and they are bucking hard against the Federal Liberals' attempts to implement a national carbon tax.  The leaders themselves don't use the language of climate change denial, but I'd say the conservative base has a large enough chunk of climate deniers to be a force in swinging their leadership to their current obstructionist positions.
