still haven't heard back from the VA about my education benefits  :doge
The last year of my chapter 35 benefits they literally just ignored me and then finally sent a letter after my benefits expired saying "oh whoops. you're no longer eligible"

They're also moronic because my benefits have expired but they won't allow my school to remove me off the VA hold list so every time I make a change I still have to submit the stupid VA forms just for them to be denied in order to add/drop a class or whatever.

77 Billion spent in California and nothing to show for it. Yikes.

ToxicAdam, we know you're an idiot, but do you have to keep making it so obvious?

1) Spending to date has been $5.5 billion
2) Nothing has changed on the project. The Governor simply repeated the last business plan. Use the existing money to finish the valley segment and get fed funding for the rest

IMO, if they want recreation, they should go to the fucking park

Also, this explains why the shutdown went on for song long - he didnt need to go to Florida for golf, he was playing at home

Yeah of the new generation socialist congresswomen Ocasio-Cortez is far and away the best speaker and most media savvy. I don't think Omar's AIPAC comments were anti-Semitic but they were definitely clumsily expressed. I have to give her props for being willing to put herself out there on foreign policy though. Bernie and AOC have both been conspicuously silent on foreign policy issues (insert Marxist-Leninist line about social fascists here).

Yeah, she wasn't being antisemitic but was kind of glib and sloppy. It's worth taking the time to get familiar with antisemitic tropes and steering well clear of them if only to avoid getting a fan base of racist creeps, like what's happened with Tulsi Gabbard.

But it has to be galling for her to deal with this level of shitstorm for that tweet, considering what you can get away with saying about Muslims in the US with basically no consequences.

Omar is playing a dangerous game going after the people they bring in when diplomacy has failed.
Plus she's already feeding the Qatari AJ+ and RT newsfeeds.

I don't suppose she ever wonders: "Why is this horrible mass murderer sitting in front of me protected by basically everyone"

But it has to be galling for her to deal with this level of shitstorm for that tweet, considering what you can get away with saying about Muslims in the US with basically no consequences.

Tulsi Gabbard feels like such a throwback to the mid aughts when the American left didn't have even the shred of mainstream presence that it does today so if you were a self-styled progressive or extreme liberal or whatever who couldn't make peace with the Democratic party you had to latch on to whatever you could get. Any politician that was good on one or two issues and sufficiently outside the mainstream could inspire interest at the least from the anti-establishment left (the quintessential example of this was talking up Ron Paul's anti-interventionism and drug policies and ignoring, you know, the rest).

Greenwald is another figure that seems like a relic of that era. All his takes are rooted in opposition to a wrong being done by some big hegemonic bad--Tulsi is being unfairly treated by the media, the national security consensus is disastrous and immoral, Michael Tracey is the most demonized person on Twitter. He's not always wrong (I'd say he's usually right) but when your politics is based entirely around supporting the plucky outsider against the wrongdoings of the powers that be you end up contorting yourself into some really weird positions like defending Tennys Sandgren or being a regular guest on Tucker Carlson.

The thing about the ratio phenomenon is that Twitter is the one place you can yell at a fairly prominent person and they'll hear you.

There was a bit of handwringing about angry bloggers in the 00's, but there's way more concern about "online lynch mobs" now, and that's because wealthy media types read their Twitter mentions in a way they never did with the Eschaton comment section or whatever. Also the mobs have a really remarkable track record of being right.

Curly... pretty good description of Greenwald. He’s just an ultra contrarian about everything ever.

I’ve seen some really terrible takes on the Omar thing though. Even among people whose opinions I usually respect.

What she said could maybe be considered antisemitic if she wasn’t right. But anyone with half a brain can look at AIPAC and the general “Israel lobby” and the people associated with it and see unequivocally that they wield a vast amount of money into the electoral system to buy votes on Israel related matters. Yes, they are not always successful, but they do try and will get wins always on low stakes shit like this.

I’m old enough to remember when Haim Saban tried to buy a chair for Jane Harman in exchange for her trying to influence the DOJ to drop charges on two AIPAC members. I’m smart enough to know that though Sheldon Adelson technically broke with aipac in 2007 that he partners with aipac linked groups like the American Education Fund.

Those are two of the biggest donors to both parties over the last 20 years and there is absolutely no way to know conretely how much money AIPAC raises indirectly for candidates from bundling by its members and coordinations donations to superpacs. But I can look at two of the biggest donors to both parties and see that they both say their #1 issue is Israel.

There, in theory, is a John McAfee thread, but shosta much like his failed favorite candidate didn't even indicate this in the thread title to where it's almost as if I would make an actual proper McAfee 2020 thread (my past success includes making the Donald Trump 2016 thread on January 20, 2015 on NeoGAF.com leading to his election) if you would stop your bigoted attacks against whale consent awareness.

Eh, Obama built a basketball court. One of them built a bowling alley, and then some other feckless fucktard paid to remove the bowling alley.
Truman built the bowling alley, it's never been removed.

Although, it was part of ANOTHER FAILED OBAMA PROMISE:
Quote
As a presidential candidate in 2008, Barack Obama vowed to tear out the White House bowling alley and install a basketball court if elected. Now, nearly four years later, the basement bowling alley is still there, and getting plenty of use.

More than 4,100 have been granted access to the White House to visit the presidential lanes in the Executive Office Building since Obama took office, according to visitor logs released by the administration and analyzed by ABC News.

In May 2011 alone, the most recent month for which records have been released, 230 bowlers were cleared by the Secret Service to try their hands at strikes and spares. The two-lane alley appears to have been used every day of the month except five.

By comparison, only 60 visitors to the White House since 2009 came to use the presidential basketball court, records show.

AIPAC's main issue is getting the US to subsidize weaponry for a bunch of English-speaking white people so they can be aimed at scary bearded Muslims.

I'm sure the money helps but it's not exactly an uphill battle.
