Nah, people get upset hearing negative shit about their fave, whether it's in the form of C- amateur punditry or fairly rigorous poll aggregation.

I can't pretend Twitter Dems are that much saner than Dean Chambers. We've already had posters in this thread unskewing polls.

You know what, I was going to silently disagree with you but I have to say you are right. Sanders fans are fucking unbearable in their eternal quest for mild socdem grandpa. They are as rigid and uncompromising as any politruk or red guard battling countterrevolution, with none of the (situational) authority. they take any preference or acknowledgment of a candidate that isn't daddy harder, more personally than any single american political bloc i remember seeing in my lifetime since the Paulites. I have to say, they (almost) make me hate him.

Are you tankie? :lupe

What is that :thinking ? Liz Warren 2020

Hayes is the most progressive talking head on MSNBC

That's what I'm getting at. I think one day he loses it and ends up on Democracy Now! or some shit.

he's friends with Sam Seder. Him and that weirdo who always quotes rap songs are the only ones who will have him on.

I always second-guess my own assessment of these things. By posting about politics online I'm subjecting myself to the most rabid 2% of any given group.

But I've heard enough casual Dem and non-political acquaintances refer to the archetype of the Intense Sanders Evangelist Who Won't Shut Up that it seems out there in the public psyche. Plus as much as we talk about how bad 2016 got, it's probably worse than we remember. HA Goodman and Seth Abramson were writing galaxy brain takes that went massively viral. Superdelegates were going to flip the convention for Bernie (just like later in the year faithless electors were going to make Hillary president).

My fave example of this (because I am ideologically positioned such that it reinforces my beliefs instead of causing troublesome doubt):

Quote
I want to reverse the usual schedule of things, then. We don't have to wait until she dies to act. Hillary Clinton's name belongs on ships, and airports, and tattoos. She deserves straight-up hagiographies and a sold-out Broadway show called RODHAM. Yes, this cultural canonization is going to come after the chronic, constant, nonstop "On the other hand" sexist hedging around her legacy. But such is the courage of Hillary Clinton and her supporters; we reverse patriarchal orders. Maybe she is more than a president. Maybe she is an idea, a world-historical heroine, light itself. The presidency is too small for her. She belongs to a much more elite class of Americans, the more-than-presidents. Neil Armstrong, Martin Luther King Jr., Alexander Fucking Hamilton.

Was it a typo? That JFK was more of a liberal than Obama

Oh, I see. No. The post was deliberate. JFK is touted as this big liberal president when the civil rights act sat on his desk gathering dust and double downed on our military, paving the way for the Vietnam war and 80's Reaganism. Yet, to many Democrats he's often touted as a true liberal. Meanwhile Obama is often criticized for following a lot of 80's moderate Republican isms which were laid down by JFK. This has made Obama - the moderate conservative remember - funnily gain the ire of many Republicans.

Given Esch's comment on "between libertarian and liberal" I made a jape - which seems to have bombed - because I quite honestly don't know what between a liberal and libertarian even is. So as a joke I asked Esch what his definition of a liberal is, and given Esch's commie interests, I know he doesn't think too highly of them and would find little difference.

Hence the joke. :(

JFK was so progressive, he tried to off Fidel Castro first year in his administration.  :doge

Actually had a history teacher try to link JFK, the Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, and the JFK assassination. Dude got caught years (about 2 decade later) of embezzling from the ASB fund. Apparently, he was raiding the ASB funds to try to pay for a side business he was running.

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/11/teachers-union-sues-betsy-devos-1583187

Quote
One of the nation’s largest teachers unions filed suit Thursday against Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, accusing her agency of mismanaging a major program intended to provide student loan forgiveness to public service workers.

The American Federation of Teachers claims the Education Department has improperly rejected the applications of teachers seeking public service loan forgiveness and violated their constitutional right to due process.

AFT President Randi Weingarten and eight student loan borrowers who are teachers or work in public service jobs are named as plaintiffs in the suit, which was filed in federal court in Washington, D.C.

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, which was passed by Congress in 2007, was designed to allow student loan borrowers who work in public service jobs to have their loans discharged after they make 10 years of payments. But relatively few borrowers have been able to obtain the benefit in recent years, as the Education Department has rejected roughly 99 percent of applications. That's left tens of thousands of frustrated borrowers with student loans they thought would be forgiven after they worked a decade on the job.

The department has said that the applications are being rejected because borrowers have not met the eligibility requirements of the program.

Gotta admit, I'm interested in how this one plays out because I need my loans to be forgiven. I hadn't tried to get the 10 years part yet, but just trying to get the federal government and the loan company to understand I working towards 5 years as a teacher is some kafkaesque BS (to get $10K off my loans). I can't imagine all the hoops I have to do when I actually do apply to get the entire thing forgiven in about 5-7 years from now.

I just had a crazy idea that probably wouldn't work because you couldn't organize enough people to participate, but couldn't the Democrats destroy Republican gerrymandering by having several Million Democrats register as Republican who then vote D in the elections (after being gerrymandered)?
(Right now there are 70 Million registered Democrats vs 50 Million Republicans.)

Awesome how there are no rules for the US government. You can just enforce whatever you want by executive order, you don't need to fill open positions within any time limit and can just leave them unoccupied indefinitely. Subpoenas by congress? Who cares, nothing happens if you just ignore them. Know you're going to lose a vote in a local Senate? Just skip town with your fellow Republican congressmen and prevent the vote from taking place. There are no repercussions.

Worth noting (besides "they aren't even trying anymore") that California is the only state without a meaningful severance tax.

The courts are increasingly populated by judges who won't push back.
The Republicans who control the Senate either support it or don't care.
Dem leadership in Congress generally isn't willing to fight.
Roughly half of voters don't care.

But why are the Democrats such wimps? How do they not get what the Republicans are doing? Do they enjoy being bullied by a group of people who don't care about ethics or laws? Are they morons?

Nancy and the Democrats must be hatching a secret plan to destroy Donald Trump any day now

In all seriousness, pelosi told the progressive wing that why should she listen to them, they only got 4 votes. So they basically took that advice and going to try to primary as many safe democratic seats and as many purple seats as possible.

Imo, Pelosi needs to not just worry about the moderates, but people not yet alligned to any group but will pick a side eventually. Katie Hill is my rep in Congress right now and represent conservative-ish Simi valley (the fact that I can say Simi valley is only conservative leaning right now is wild), mixed politically Santa Clarita and democratic heavy Palmdale/Lancaster area.

But I will tell you this, if and when Katie Hill picks an official cascus it probably won't be the "problem solvers" group. People in her district are looking for her to solve shit, not just be a number. That's what did Steve Knight in, the Republican that had Katie Hill's seat before her. Dude couldn't advance simple shit in a Congress that was more conservative, Republican and alligned to his values. I don't think Hill will.make the same mistake.

You seem pretty confident about this.
