1. Proving Republicans right about Democrats that they've been talking about the entire time of Obama that Democrats denied
2. Turning off independents
3. Characterizing his party as for this
4. Placing distrust into the soup by giving people a reason to trust Democrats on guns
He basically poisoned two decades of Democratic Party rhetoric to sell t-shirts.

That no compromises shit that lost him an election against Ted Cruz is what he's going for on the national stage and in the end it just makes him look like a self serving moron. That sort of talk won't work in Texas, much less the national stage.
