The difference between the Trump admin now and 2017 is not Trump himself but the people around him.
Hicks would monitor his media diet and provide the talking points. John Kelly would pretty much co-pilot the Presidency.
A cabinet meeting like this might've been something Kelly couldn't have prevented but he would've made sure Trump got the talking points and messaging correct.

SIGOURNEY, Iowa —  Just when it looked like the Democratic presidential contest was becoming a two-person race, a pair of Midwestern pragmatists are betting they can still rise by speaking to an unsatisfied slice of the electorate: voters who believe Sen. Elizabeth Warren is too far to the left but think former Vice President Joe Biden is yesterday’s news.

Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., has been building a robust campaign infrastructure and raking in piles of campaign cash, and during last week’s debate he grabbed the spotlight with an aggressive challenge to Warren.

“My lane has never been clearer,” he told reporters after speaking Friday at the University of Chicago. “If you want the left-most-possible candidate, you’ve got a clear choice. If you want the candidate with the most years in Washington, you’ve got a clear choice. For everybody else, I just might be your person.”

Sen. Amy Klobuchar also got a boost from the debate, where she gave her most effective pitch yet for being a pragmatic Midwestern alternative to the liberalism of Warren and Bernie Sanders.

“I don’t see this as flyover country. I see this as home,” the Minnesota senator told voters gathered in an Iowa home-decor store on Friday in Sigourney, about 80 miles east of Des Moines. “A lot of people make a lot of promises, especially to Iowa. What really matters is their track record.”

To capitalize on the buzz from his debate performance, Buttigieg is taking a swing this week through all four early-primary states, including Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina. The day after the debate, Buttigieg went to Ames, Iowa, for a bit of a victory lap.

“Who saw the debate last night?” Jessica Reynolds, a Story County prosecutor who endorsed and introduced Buttigieg, asked the crowd at Iowa State University. “Didn’t he knock it out of the park?”

Admitting to being “a little sleep-deprived,” Buttigieg portrayed himself as less divisive, but no less bold, than his rivals.

“I will put forward ideas that are bold enough to solve the challenges that are in front of us, and do it in a way that can unify the American people,” he said

Preparing to spread the word, more than a dozen volunteers gathered Friday night at a Buttigieg field office in Ankeny, a suburb of Des Moines, with a sense of urgency.

“It’s really important because after the debates we’re seeing all this crazy energy, and we want to harness that,” said Shannon Sankey, a 23-year-old organizer for the campaign. “And the best way we can do it is knock on doors.”

Buttigieg’s supporters seem comfortable with his more combative tone, even though it is a big shift for a candidate who has called for a positive, unifying campaign. Jacob Sher, a University of Chicago student, believes it is time for Buttigieg to come out swinging.

“I love how he went on the offensive in the debate,” Sher said while waiting to hear Buttigieg speak on campus. “Some people might have seen it as off from his original message, but in order to be a strong contender, it was a necessary move.”

Klobuchar kicked off her Iowa tour by rolling out endorsements by state lawmakers, including Rep. Andy McKean, who had been the longest-serving Republican in the state Legislature until this year, when he left the GOP over objections to President Trump and became a Democrat.

“She has that practical, common-sense, Midwestern approach that I think will resonate very favorable with the people of Iowa,” McKean said.

Many who are considering backing her say they are drawn to her pragmatism and see Klobuchar, 59, as both a more mature alternative to Buttigieg and a more youthful, female alternative to Biden.

“He’s past his prime, ” Dan McGuire, a Des Moines surgeon, said of Biden, adding that Buttigieg is “a little young — he hasn’t quite shown that he gets things done.”

Klobuchar is the “just right” candidate between them, he said.

“She has a pretty proven track record in the Senate of getting things done,” he said. “Not so much saying but getting them done.”

MASON CITY, Iowa — Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar shot out of the last Democratic debate with the most precious commodity a presidential candidate can get before the Iowa caucuses: momentum. Now, they’re racing to actually crack open what for months has been a three-person race.

The Minnesota senator and the South Bend, Ind., mayor each raised more than $1 million in the 24 hours following the debate, a sign that their critiques of progressive leaders Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders during the debate struck a chord. Energetic crowds greeted them in the first caucus state soon after — including voters who said they were looking for alternatives to Joe Biden, the longtime polling leader who has slipped in Iowa over the past month.

Klobuchar, speaking aboard her bright green campaign bus in Iowa — and joking that she was happy to be able to pay to wrap her logo around it after her post-debate fundraising boomlet — said her scraps with Sanders and Warren showed a focus on the swing voters who will decide the 2020 election, particularly in the Midwest.

Klobuchar chided Warren during the debate that “the difference between a plan and a pipe dream is something you can actually get done.” Earlier, Buttigieg had told the Massachusetts senator that her “signature” is “to have a plan for everything, except” health care.

Warren and Sanders “say, we are brave because these are our ideas, and you’re not because you don’t share our ideas,” Klobuchar said in an interview. “Of course, I’ve been thinking about that a lot, and I said, no, I think it’s actually brave to bring up that you should pay for things in our party. I think it’s brave to acknowledge that we should bring in independents and moderate Republicans.”

In Waterloo, Iowa, Klobuchar told the 100-person crowd at Single Speed Brewing that the campaign raised $1.5 million in the 36 hours following the debate, a “huge amount of momentum,” she said to cheers, “and it gave me the chance to say a few more words than I got to in past debates from my perch up there on the side.”

But Klobuchar, who rolled out a pair of Iowa state legislative endorsements this week, said that her campaign has been building, “slowly, but surely,” and preparing to seize on the right moment. A “moment in a debate [is] pretty short-lived,” Klobuchar acknowledged. Those new endorsers “didn’t just go, ‘oh, we liked you in the debate!’ We had those in hand.”

“There’s room for people to know who I am now,” Klobuchar said. On Thursday, her campaign released a digital ad touting her track record of bipartisan successes.

A former Biden backer in the crowd for Klobuchar’s stop in Mason City Saturday agreed. Mary Lu Barnekow, a 79-year-old Democratic caucus-goer, said age was an important factor for her, and she “was for Biden” before deciding his age was “a concern.” Buttigieg, meanwhile, is “too young.”

Instead, Barnekow, clutching Klobuchar lawn signs and stickers, decided to caucus for Klobuchar after seeing her in person this weekend coming off last week’s debate.

“Biden is afraid to make waves, and since they have similar platforms, Amy will say what Biden is afraid to say,” said Bert Lange, a 49-year-old voter from Garner, Iowa, who said he was supportive of the senator. “I definitely felt like she did that in the debate.”

She’s picked a fight with Representative Tulsi Gabbard, suggesting that the Hawaii congresswoman and presidential candidate is a favorite of the Russians. And she’s tweeted a letter mocking Mr. Trump with language that makes it unprintable in this family newsletter.

For most of her public career, Mrs. Clinton has been constrained by the expectations of her position, be it first lady, senator or secretary of state. Now, after her stunning loss in 2016, it seems she finally feels liberated to speak her mind.

And she’s certainly stirring up a lot of drama while doing it. The two-time Democratic presidential candidate continues to loom large in the psyche of her party — both as heroine and villain.

Some Democrats celebrate seeing Mrs. Clinton giving zero, uh, cares.

But Mrs. Clinton’s return to the spotlight comes as a number of Democratic Party officials — including some major donors, activists and black pastors in early voting states — are privately wondering whether she should jump into the primary race.

Publicly, Mrs. Clinton isn’t doing much to tamp down the speculation: “Maybe there does need to be a rematch. Obviously, I can beat him again,” she said in an interview on PBS this month, referring to her victory over Mr. Trump in the popular vote.

People who have spoken to Mrs. Clinton say she remains “wistful” about the idea of a third presidential run, though she has not taken steps to actually mount a bid and remains unlikely to do so.

Instead, she’s offered advice to nearly everyone in the Democratic field — save for her former primary rival, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Ms. Gabbard.

She has a friendly relationship with Senator Elizabeth Warren, last speaking with her in early September, and remains in regular touch with former Vice President Joe Biden. Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Senator Cory Booker have reached out repeatedly.

She has no plans to make an endorsement in the primary, say those close to her.

But, as her supporters argue, why should she stay silent — particularly given the strangeness of our political times? After all, former Secretary of State John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic nominee, has also flirted with running for president again.

Mrs. Clinton isn’t the only Democrat facing calls to run for office. Oprah Winfrey wants Bob Iger, Disney’s chief executive, to jump into the race.

Edit: I’m also not sure the politics of it are that simple. Full on obstruction is probably a good move in full on trump country, but they’ll almost definitely lose the senate with that move.

It also is sort of like admitting there’s something there. On the one hand, they don’t have the embarrassing trial, but on the other hand, the President never really ends up having someone that can string a full sentence together try to exonerate and defend him.

Now, here's where it starts to get weird. With Trump thinning the horde of his administration and ruling out Pence, Jared and the Trump kids the general consensus is that Kelyanne Conway is the leaker and the whistle blower.
She has been linked to many White House leaks and has the strongest connections with the reporters publishing the leaked information. In fact, the rumor goes that the tweets on her husbands' account are written by her.
Conway has hinted at her divided loyalties in the past. Saying that at some point she would tell 'her side' of the story and telling Mika (of Morning Joe) that 'she needed a shower' after defending Trump.

So at this point you might say. Ok Kelyanne is the leaker no big deal. But Trump apparently wants to appoint Kelyanne Chief of Staff, replacing Mulvaney who fucked up.
While his aides have looked at other options such as Chris Christie, he's asked his friends if they think Kelyanne Conway would be a good chief of staff.
