New York (CNN Business)One of the companies that Facebook hired to fact-check posts on its platform will propose a change to Facebook's policy allowing politicians to run ads containing falsehoods, CNN Business has learned.Lead Stories, one of the fact-checking organizations hired by Facebook (FB) after the 2016 election to help curb the platform's misinformation problem, will propose that fact-checkers vet ads from politicians and that those fact-checks then be reviewed by a new nonpartisan blue-ribbon panel.Lead Stories will make the proposal at a meeting for Facebook's fact-checkers at Facebook's Menlo Park headquarters next week, Alan Duke, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Lead Stories, told CNN Business Thursday."There is an urgent need for a fair method to identify egregiously false political ads in 2020," Duke, himself a former CNN journalist, said. "Our experience as fact checkers shows me that too many people are too fast to fall for disinformation."Lead Stories is one of six fact-checking organizations Facebook works with in the United States. When a link or Facebook post is deemed false by the fact-checkers, clarifiying information is added to it and it is "downranked" on Facebook, meaning it should be seen by less people.
QuoteDuring Tuesday’s debate, the DNC will use a software tool called Trendolizer to track trending disinformation. Trendolizer — think TweetDeck but with lots of fancy graphs — scrapes data from social media and across the internet to surface hidden content that is on the cusp of going viral. Its “Hotness” filter alerts users when something new is about to take off. If it’s potentially damaging misinformation about a Democratic candidate, DNC Tech flags it for its “counter-disinformation contact” on the affected campaign and recommends that they reach out to one of the third-party fact-checkers that Facebook relies upon—such as The Associated Press, Poynter, or FactCheck.org.

What did Ilhan do/say now?Something that got Armenians mad apparently.
Omar said in a statement Tuesday that while she believes accountability is “paramount” for human rights abuses, including genocide, such acknowledgments should not be “used as cudgel in a political fight.” She pointed to the slave trade and genocide of American Indians as examples of atrocities that receive too little recognition. She later defended her vote on Twitter, reiterating that she acknowledges the World War I-era Armenian genocide and that her concern was “not with the substance of this resolution.”“My issue was with the timing and context. I think we should demand accountability for human rights abuses consistently, not simply when it suits our political goals,” said Omar, a champion of Palestinian rights on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “My focus has and will always be to make sure our foreign policy is consistent, coherent and my votes will as well.”

By the time I woke up on Wednesday morning, the tweet had almost 100,000 likes. I felt something in me burst like a bubble. I drafted a post on Facebook to share something I had only ever told my closest friends – I cared so deeply about this issue because it was my story, too.I was only 19, and desperate for a roommate when I met the man who would go on to get me very drunk, film me without consent and release the evidence.I am 32 now and I can still feel the sensation of how it felt to have my world crumble around me. My boyfriend left me. I was forced out of the online community where I’d found a home. I was utterly, hopelessly alone. I even contemplated killing myself, especially as this man threatened to show my parents the video. He made DVDs and sent me a copy.
And it’s really, really about the fact that nudes are an expected part of 21st century romance. In the dark teenage drama Euphoria on HBO, the main character explains this beautifully. Exchanging naked photos and snaps is just how many young people build intimacy in a digital world that increasingly lacks it.It is not enough to tell women in their 20s and 30s that they just shouldn’t send nudes. A great number of us already have. We shouldn’t have to feel shame that we trusted someone, that we wanted to feel closer to them. Or that we weren’t given a choice.Sharing someone’s private photos without their consent is a violation of their privacy and their trust. It’s wrong, and the people who do it should be held accountable for their actions. The United States should follow in the footsteps of the many countries that have made the sharing of revenge porn a federal crime. But in the nation of Brock Turner and Brett Kavanaugh, substantial reform doesn’t seem likely soon. What we can do now is tell our stories. Of how we’ve been hurt, our trust violated. We can keep talking about it. We can leak our own nudes.
Katie Hill really is laying it on thick for someone who was sleeping with their campaign staffer.I guess since Bill Zclinton didn’t deserve impeachment for Monica Lewinsky, we have just decided this particular abuse of power is just A-OK?

Warren just fucked up by putting out a plan that says "no new taxes"what a ditz.
Clarification Nov. 1, 2019While middle class Americans would no longer pay health premiums or copays under Elizabeth Warren's proposal and would also not pay any new taxes to replace those costs, they would pay taxes on whatever extra take-home pay might result.
