My one concern with Sanders is that this is the guy who ran a campaign so incompetent that he lost to the candidate who lost to the worst candidate in history. How do you fuck things up that badly? He'd need to do substantially better in the general.

That's always been a bad concern.  Considering he had a tiny pool to pull from in 2016 for campaign talent, it's rather impressive the margin he lost by was so small.  Let's not forget when he announced his running:

Also McConnell is playing a dangerous game. The polling of the populace right now looks similar to the same numbers the American citizens had when Nixon's impeachment investigation was going on.
