Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) called on the Democratic Party to abandon the caucus system on Sunday in a statement released following the caucuses held in his home state.

Reid said in a statement that the Nevada Democratic Party "did a good job" with Saturday's caucuses following the chaos in Iowa after its first-in-the-nation contest, while calling on the caucus system to be dropped entirely.

“I am so proud of the Nevada Democratic Party, its talented staff, and the thousands of grassroots volunteers who have done so much hard work over the years to build this operation. We have the best state party in the country, and that was shown again this past week after another successful caucus that featured a historic four days of early voting with more than 10,000 new voter registrations," Reid said of the Nevada Democratic Party.

“With so much Democratic enthusiasm in Nevada, demonstrated again by the tremendous caucus turnout this year, I believe we should make the process of selecting our nominee even more accessible," Reid continued, adding: "That’s why I believe it’s time for the Democratic Party to move to primaries everywhere."

His remarks come after Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) exhibited a strong showing in Nevada's caucuses on Saturday, winning more than 40 percent of the vote statewide and leading his closest opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden (D), by more than 20 points.

The Democratic Party and Iowa's state party in particular came under heavy criticism after the Iowa caucuses ended in confusion, with two campaigns calling for recanvassing efforts in dozens of precincts and no clear winner being declared in the immediate days afterward.

Iowa's state Democratic Party chair later resigned over the confusion, apologizing and taking responsibility for the decision to use an untested app that failed in many precincts on caucus day.

hahaha.

The Democrats had already reduced the number of caucuses to almost the lowest possible number of three. There were 14 in 2016 and 16 in 2008.

Warms my heart that you can’t call Bernie an anti-Semite because he’s critical of Israel :)

This leaves out the third path of doing the Jeb meme and winning every state.

I've said it before, but there's this triumphalist strain in the American left the last few years that seems like a new development. It's probably a good thing insofar as it's a sign of optimism and energy, but boy there's a lot of silliness.

https://www.propublica.org/article/trumps-new-spy-chief-used-to-work-for-a-foreign-politician-the-us-accused-of-corruption

Quote
President Donald Trump’s new acting intelligence director, Richard Grenell, used to do consulting work on behalf of an Eastern European oligarch who is now a fugitive and was recently barred from entering the U.S. under anti-corruption sanctions imposed last month by the State Department.

In 2016, Grenell wrote several articles defending the oligarch, a Moldovan politician named Vladimir Plahotniuc, but did not disclose that he was being paid, according to records and interviews. Grenell also did not register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which generally requires people to disclose work in the U.S. on behalf of foreign politicians.

FARA is the same law that Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and former deputy campaign manager Rick Gates were convicted of violating. (Manafort went to trial. Gates pleaded guilty.)

In other words, an ordinary weekday in the Banana Republic formerly known as USA.

so who's gonna be bernie's VP pick?

bernie by himself is strong enough so im thinking anything could work

i was thinking it should be someone non-white (no offense to all the competent wypipo politicians out there, including my meanest man butti)

Bernie/Patrick sounds good to me

idealist jewish senator + pragmatic black governor sounds like a good team :pimp

I think he has said it would be a woman in the past (another Bernie LIE?!).

My guess is it’s someone who fills in some of his demographic or regional gaps while also being a more “loyal” democrat. Stacy Abrams I feel would be a good guess, or someone from the Midwest.

But Bernie is also non-traditional politician, so he might just pick like AOC or some shit (she might not be old enough).

Having seen her speak at a Bernie rally, I would not be at all surprised if she is President one day

@Stro
Just so we are clear, the Foreign Agents Registration Act is federal law, so Trump could simply pardon Grenell if someone in the Justice Department were to risk their job by indicting him.

Was Jeremy Corbyn promising new programs that would substantially improve the material conditions of people's lives?  Sorry for my ignorance, but I feel like in the US there's a lot more systemic problems of capitalism for Sanders to run on.

Can't see it happening.  UK is a different beast plus Corbyn's weakness on Brexit hurt him badly.
Corbyn pretty much had the same problems as Bernie. A party that wouldn't unite around him and considered him an outsider.
Right after winning a bunch of primaries Bernie praises Fidel Castro in an interview. Bernie is going to be torched until election day.
Hillary Clinton won't endorse him, she'll just add fuel to the 'Bernie is a Russian plant' fire.

By November, Trump will seem like the safe and sensible choice. Just wait until the Naval blockade of Venezuela goes into effect.
