Hopefully the party collapses after this year. They deserve it.

to be replaced with what?

if your problem is that you find Americans in general completely horrible and unworthy of your respect, rearranging them into nominally different political parties doesn't seem like a solution

My hope is that when Biden loses it will cause Democrats to do a Republican style autopsy of the party. Then, given her comments about sharing the same party as Biden, AOC and other progressives will form a new party in the same vein of the Republican Party being made in 1854. Many support Sanders' agenda. With enough momentum they could establish a new party and replace the Democrats. If Biden loses, they will have great claim that the Democrats are incompetent and that the old ways do not work.

But at this point it's just political fan fiction.

you'd think "the most experienced candidate in the history of the world" losing would have made the dems look inside, so i've got no confidence of that occuring if biden takes a shit in november

my guess is they'll just blame russia again or something

My hope is that the incompetent, terrible party will be forced to rethink after using two milquetoast candidates in a row. It will be an 80's style rout with Repub dominance and force them to change directions.

The Working Families Party, a major left-wing group that supported Sen. Elizabeth Warren for president, is throwing its weight behind Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Progressives hope the eleventh-hour endorsement, which comes days after Warren dropped out of the race, will help unite the left wing of the Democratic Party.

We're in the eye of the storm.

If the primary ends with Biden the victor people are going to unleash on Warren.  Whatever bitterness you see now is still being tempered by a hope to pick up her former supporters.

If Biden loses I think she might lose her seat in 2022 if it's the case.

Medical professionals:  :beli

This is actually part and parcel with what medical professionals have been saying. My mother, that works at a hospital, is completely dismissive despite the fact her husband has a kidney disease and congested heart failure.

Check Huff's posts in the corona thread. He's a doctor btw. And clearly doesn't give a shit.

I know paramedics who have posted things on facebook that are the same as Trump's words here, including a bulletin board picture one of the doctors at their hospital wrote about how there's always a virus on an election year and that the flu kills more people.

The crux is: America is a selfish, stupid country. Just like I've been telling you. The idea of containment and treating it with seriousness is a national joke. "It just kills the elderly lol who cares lol" is the common sentiment among the public and the elderly act like there's no way they could possibly get it. Check Bebpo's posts in the corona thread about American selfishness and how it won't be contained due to that. Just about everyone has the same mindset as Trump, whether left or right. Those that take it serious are in an unfortunate minority.

If they could get more support than the Democrats, wouldn't they be able to beat them in a party primary?

:hmm

My hope  (emphasis) is that after Democrats lose again, they'll be forced to come to terms that they pick bad candidates. But given they've ran with Kasich, Gore, Kerry, Clinton, and now Biden there's also a likelihood they'll just keep fucking that chicken. Democrats are that incompetent that I expect that to happen.

just need enough votes to make sure the dems never win again and force them to work with the minority group. might be easier to work inside the party and elect our own freedom caucus and hold them hostage that way.

The 2012 Republican autopsy said nothing about reversing half their positions and nominating the former multi-time bankrupt host of The Celebrity Apprentice then slavishly worshiping him as "sensible" types like Bill Kristol, David Brooks, Jennifer Rubin and others lose their goddamn minds even more than those making temporarily alliance with Trump.

What do you know about the foundation of the Republican Party and how it became the dominant political party for two generations? The coalition of Whigs, Know-Nothings, Free Soilers and anti-slavery Democrats that temporarily aligned during The War didn't come from a previous party coalition collapsing. The Whigs were a temporarily alliance opposed to Jackson, after he left the scene they slowly imploded and never truly aligned on any issues.

The Republican Party itself split in half within a few years of The War ending mostly over tensions the War papered over and then four years later the Democrats had returned as a nationally viable party. THEN to maintain the White House the Republicans agreed to abandon the South to the Democrats.

You can do a third party system in the country, it'd just be regionally based, ala Canada's. Blue states could have the Democrats vs. Socialists. Darker red states could have Republicans vs. Nationalists. And swing states could maintain Republicans vs. Democrats. But this raises my point above about the foundation of the Republicans, it makes a nice clean philosophical split between the parties. But parties don't split like this, not even in PR systems. They split over other reasons from the petty to the single issue to sometimes ideological. And then they still have to form coalitions in the end, as these parties would. If either of the current major parties splits in half for entirely ideological reasons, the other party becomes a big tent party that absorbs the lesser remnant adopting many of its issues.

I can predict that with confidence because it's what the Republicans and Democrats have been doing since 1854 as issues rise and fall and coalitions realign. Republicans went from the imperialist party to the non-interventionist to isolationist to JUST FIGHT IT HARDER to "no world police" to War Always Forever Everywhere. And this is just one issue. And many of the people were the same people. We can do it with all kinds of issues.

The foundation of the Republicans was different and a major impact because it did what the other parties didn't do, ran perpendicular to the dominant issue of the time and coalesced around that. The Democrats and Whigs/Americans settled their internal differences over slavery by an endless set of compromises that tried to avoid changing the status quo. The Republicans, no matter what else was in the platform (lots of warmed over Whiggism) aligned on a fundamental principle that slavery would be driven out of the country either immediately (the radical minority view) or over time (the vast majority view) if slavery could be halted from spreading into the territories and therefore future states. The Party itself fought endlessly over whether or not blacks were equals and preferred to discuss that after slavery was dying. (For those wondering they decided that they didn't really care if it meant maintaining political power.)

Kerry was some random senator. Biden is the two term vice president to an extremely popular president.

Biden being vice prez has nothing to do with his current mental state.

Or maybe it does, who knows.

Last night I got high for the first time in a while and my brain exploded while thinking about US prisons.  I've always supported things like the right of prisoners to vote but in the past it was always in sort of a "look at how crazy progressive I am" sort of way, not in a "my god, we have disenfranchised way over 2 million people.  We are a monster country." kind of way.

As far as I can tell there are more people in jail and prison than people living in New Mexico.  Look at this fucking graph:

And this fucking map:

What is wrong with us?  I've never read The New Jim Crow but I always took the title of the book to be sort of metaphorical, not literal.  But it is literal.  Black Lives Matter didn't go far enough.

Kind of interesting that juvenile detention stayed fairly static as jail and prison populations exploded.

Cause they started charging juveniles as adults.

I hope Trump gets Coronavirus. I hope he gives it to everyone on the golf course, his hotels, his family. I hope they all just keep giving each-other the virus back and forth until they wither away and die.
I thought about this and given his advanced age I actually do hope he gets the illness and dies. I would love that a lot. He should get coronavirus and die.

I love you shosty, but I need you to get Corona and spread it in some casinos for stonks reasons. I think you will agree that this is the more pressing issue.

So uh, do Joe and Bernie want to be President if Trump has slashed the taxes to 0%, everyone is dead or dying from corona, the debt is 1000% of GDP, the DOW at 300 points and there is a shooting war between the US, Saudi Arabia en Russia over oil :rollsafe

The man responsible for handling this Corona thing hasn't been tested and doesn't even know if his boss (who stormed off and left everyone hanging) has been tested

Campaign is switching to them winning the "idea primary" and starting to talk about whoever the nominee is needs to follow what the voters want even though Biden has been pushing back on it(medicare 4 all/debt relief/tuitionfree).
