Still expect Biden to win tonight, but wonder if people expect Biden to actually do shit because the generic Dem platform has moved left compared to 2012 and 2016.

except biden and some choice others are keen on trying to go back
I'd deep down feel less conflicted if they weren't trying to collapse back to centrism before the actual election

Yeah, looking at results. It definitely seems 2016 was anti-Hillary. Imagine a timeline where Joe ran in 2016.

Time to rally around Joe and concede defeat. Hopefully Bernie doesn't stall like last time.

Also did Sanders really grow his base compared to last election? Let's look at positives about the Sanders campsign so the Bernie supporters don't go nuts over the next few days.

Hey Shosta, are you going to continue to defend Bernie's Fidel comment?
btw I am going to defend it because it's morally right. Modulo some red lines, Cuba is a democracy with very high voter participation and the history of this country's systematic disinformation campaign against left wing governments in Latin America, even when they're actual democracies like Nicaragua and Venezuela, is disgusting and shameful.

I entirely agree with you and Sanders. However, I just don't think it was a politically smart move when people accuse you of being a communist.

Well, they probably thought that after the first few contests, Sanders just gets on a roll. They probably also thought that there isn't nearly as much resistance to him within the party as pundits or social media addicts would imagine, and if people are seeing him throw a victory party every week they'll be liable to just jump on board.

tbh, it was looking pretty good there, it nearly worked! the establishment looked shook. unfortunately they also acted decisively to unify  :'(

Until tonight, Priorities USA — a Democratic superPAC that plans to spend $150 million on online and television advertising before the Democratic Party’s convention in July — had been neutral in the race.

That changed tonight.

Quote
The superPAC has been up with online ads in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida, and it starts television ads in Michigan tomorrow, Cecil said. The goal: to counter President Trump’s economic message and to fight back against attacks on Biden.

Neutral......Michigan.....Biden

you're just trying to reverse-engineer a process that would have made bernie the nominee this time

doesn't mean it would necessarily favor a left candidate in the future, though

one national vote would put even more emphasis on name recognition and early fundraising

it would have absolutely crushed bernie in 2016, not letting him build momentum, publicity, and money from early wins

put it this way: a national primary held early in the year is exactly what mike bloomberg would love

I suppose rationally Bernie should drop out, but I really need to see this debate between him and Biden.  Sadly it'll probably just be the moderators spanking Bernie with questions about why he's still running.

I'm starting to think that AOC will be a transformative politician in a few years.  She's definitely has better instincts than Warren and even (I hate to admit it) Bernie.  She has the populist cred to get Bernie's base and the X chromosome that matters to Warren's supporters.  Even many people friendly with the establishment seem to have some respect for her, although that might change. We all thought that Bernie was the hero but he might be the Yoda to her Luke Skywalker or the John the Baptist to her Jesus of Nazareth.

I hate focusing so much on one person becoming president and I don't know what to do on the local level.  The fabric of our society is pretty shitty and sometimes it feels like just getting bowling leagues going so people know each other would be the most helpful thing.  I'm tempted to try to make a lefty book club in my area but in such a conservative area I doubt anyone would come to it and I doubt that it would have any positive effect.

What are left wing issues that are suitable for the local level?  Should we get people to run for mayor promising free daycare?

hard to spin a narrative, goes against the way it's always been done, face to face campaigning vs only big ad spends mattering. nh and iowa have somehow made laws that they have to caucus before the rest of the country too? i dont really get how they have so much leverage and it goes unopposed.
