I know. Tucker is a fascist. He makes the occasional salient point so that people on the left will agree with him. So now they watch his show. And then now when their candidate loses, he swings it the other way when they're feeling down in their feelings. It's a way to wedge them out and cut a niche for the Trump administration to bank on. He's hoping that this will convince many Bernie supporters to see the "true light" - that Trump has the solutions to their problems.

But I do also agree with him on Bernie's reluctance to go on the attack at times.

For real though, I'd been hearing for at least a year that Bernie's people thought they could win in a divided field with ~30% of the vote.

That was the campaign's strategy despite Sanders being broadly popular among Dem voters, and despite it directly contradicting how Sanders himself saw his agenda being passed (via mass popular support). That contradiction in particular always bugged me and I don't remember anyone trying to square that circle.

This is why I want one of those failed campaign post-mortem articles where everyone starts leaking. Who thought this was a good idea? Did they have internal numbers that made them think he had a low ceiling? Did they think he couldn't appeal to a broader coalition without undermining his brand? Who's the new Robbie Mook, Jeff Weaver?

Good analysis. Also, there was a complete reluctance from Sanders to even attempt to broaden his coalition. I mentioned this other day but consider his language. Thing like,"the establishment." Democratic voters are very loyal to their leaders. Clinton, Obama, et al are revered almost as gods among the party. Are they not a part of the establishment? How do you plan on making in roads with the party you're campaigning under if you're directly attacking the party? It was successful with Trump, but Trump didn't run as an open democratic socialist either. Many black voters are PROUD (very big emphasis) to be Democrats. My mother and grandmother have Obama magnets on their refrigerator. She has an entire Obama picture shrine. And you think you're going to win by attacking the party of that man? Um.

Quick check shows that Hillary won it against Bernie 92k to 84k. Biden's winning it (with some precincts still not reported) 141k to 86k. So there's a huge spike in turnout and with it being an open primary could very well be R's and I's.

In general, suburbs are getting more blue while rural areas get more red. Dems did really well in the midterms with the coalition that Hillary Clinton thought she was going to have.

I wondered why Sanders didn't make more rhetorical hay out of being one of the only white politicians to endorse Jesse Jackson in 1988. Figured he didn't do it more cause Jackson could endorse someone else and it would blow up in his face.

Even disregarding the economics: on purely a psychological standpoint, nobody wants to pay off their or their kids' school and then vote for debt forgiveness of those that they are/their kids are competing with for work.  It just doesn't have broad appeal.

What a weird primary season. There weren't many pivotal moments or scandals, strategic decisions that swung the race, epic debate performances that changed public perception, nailbiting results in battleground states.

I don't believe in that dog eat dog level of spitefulness is true among the citizenry (not all of it anyway) and while I'm sure people with no debt might have a lot of indirect, unseen advantages in the job market, I have a hard time believing most people think of it like that in actual job interviews. Articulating the issue of higher education cost and access as a loan amnesty however might feel like pandering. But I guess it's more sexy, direct, simple and attainable (since the federal state already has fingers in that pie if I understand correctly) than a series of proposed regulations and public oversight to rain in universities across the nation.

I completely agree with you - I don't believe in it, either, but it's a hard sell to the general public here.  There's also the issue that the US doesn't have free higher level education services like it does in Europe: if a citizen is not doing well financially, can't afford to go back to school, the idea of paying for some young kid's tuition seems like a huge structural injustice.  I don't see how you can solve the student debt issue without a holistic approach for everyone.
