I played a couple heroic strikes while waiting for Sea of Thieves to work, didn’t really notice much difference
One thing I always hated about Destiny is that bungies design philosophy seems to mostly be “limit the rate at which people can progress at all costs”. I haven’t tried the update, but suspect that they won’t do anything to upend that.
Like, pvp seem to be balanced primarily around limiting the number of pulls you get at the slot machine. Matches almost always would extend out until the time limit, and the scoring goals were set in such a way that you would always take almost the entire 14 minutes unless you were just completely butter-creaming the other team.
Strikes seemed to be balanced the same. It’s like instead of just trying to make the game fun, they wanted to keep your player character from getting too good too quickly.
IMO, what the game really needs is wild armor and gun with crazy, op perks and something like the loot system from Diablo where there is a lot of randomization, but also a lot of loot. So you can get some guns that are crazy op that have some weird combination of perks, or you can get complete junk, or you can get something wacky and weird that’s like a rocket launcher with Wolfpack rounds that freeze enemies and create bubble shields with heal at the impact points.
