I'm 28 and have a ton of Deadpool shirts from well before the Deadpool movie, years back. The other day I saw a 12 yearold kid wearing the EXACT same DP shirt I had in my closet. It was NOT a fun day. Also, my poor wardrobe

https://www.resetera.com/posts/7610903/

I thought the positive equivalent thing happen to me last summer when I saw a couple kids wearing shirts I used to own as a teen at a Rancid/Dropkick Murphys show.

So my SO is marathoning through this, and every once in a while I catch a glimpse of it. Every fucking time there's some sort of joke in this show, it is the corniest shit ever. The fake AF laugh track playing in the background makes it even more annoying.

Doing some quick googling, this show is pretty well rated and some even consider it one of the best shows ever. Why do I wanna punch the cast so bad? Is Friends actually good and my perceptions on it are wrong?

The latest (now-locked) Lara Croft thread is further proof that gamers badly need a huge dose of feminism in their lives.

To say I am disappointed would be a dramatic understatement. Frankly, I'm sickened. Totally sick of this sort of behavior and it's even creepier that there are dudes flying in to defend that sort of behavior, as though there were ever any merit to it in the first place. Gotta defend their right to objectify, I guess. After all, when you're so used to having that sort of privilege, anything resembling equality apparently feels like oppression.

Sigh.

It’s a shame the thread turned into a wasted potential. We could have had a cool discussion about Lara’s different models and the realistic aspect of the new one.

I also hate these type of threads where we need guys making sure everyone knows how turned on they are, knowing there are women reading as well. How out of touch can you be?

Quote from: Laiza, post: 7572749, member: 215
I literally asked a dude if he would behave that way in my presence, and he straight-up said "yes".

I think that says everything about how they feel about what women think.

Quote from: rras1994, post: 7572896, member: 30774
They think every place is a place for them to do what they want - which is pretty much why when they were told to knock it off and get back to the actual thread topic, somehow they turned it round to them being persecuted. Like, huh?

Gaming is their safe space, and they'll do whatever it takes to keep it that way.

I'm sickened, disgusted, but sadly, not surprised. There seems to be a pride in how pig like and sexist gamers can be and its just so frustrating.

Yes, the thread was a sad read.  The comments in regards to the swimming gif, the people saying the woman from The Last of Us Part Two looks mannish, the comments saying Lara gained weight/looked chubby, and the "Aloy looks ugly" rehash really shows how women are seen.

Perspective on the matter of lewdness, seeing her on her dafualt outfit one "might get used" to her body figure, while her peach outfit hides some of her featurs till you get the eye candy shots.

I personally thing her default outfit is worst cuase imo is just her naked but with black color tint over, so I played with link or Samus suit

And as always, don't read the fucking comments.

Great well-thought-through video, quite an elegant summary of the character design conversation surrounding XB2 that we had here. Some good links afterwards too.

I couldn’t avoid looking at the comments though... here’s an example:

Quote
Your point being? Do you hate breasts? Curves? ... You're appalled by exaggerated proportions? Get over yourself dude, you're a man, not a woman. Act like one.
Oversexualization is nothing new in character design. The only problem I have, is with feeble-minded people like you, standing up for a misguided, unintelligent notion of feminist propaganda.

Don't get me wrong here, feminists are fine. It's just the vocal minority of them that no one should give a rat's a** about. Including this sensitive gentleman who wrote this article.

They so badly want to penetrate the bubble of normative gender sex politics in Japanese game development and media, but they can't and it's killing them.  They're wailing everywhere and making all kinds of posts and videos, but the people that matter either don't know they exist or see them as fringe oddities.  It's a kind of desperation that's funny to watch.  That Xenoblade video is 53 minutes long.

@ me when someone realizes that Lara Croft isn't nearly jacked enough to have a realistic body for what she does in her games instead of arguing if she's too fat or if wearing revealing clothes is harmful to the mind.

Yeah, let's argue over how "realistic" the character in a game where you do all kinds of impossible athletic shit, kill entire armies single-handedly, and deal with magical artifacts and creatures and shit is, brehs.

Also @ me when they realize none of these "women" are real and therefore it doesn't matter what they're wearing.

Oh, they know that they aren't real, it's their standard response whenever someone says something akin to "it fits to their personality". Unfortunately they then quickly forget that and complain that the not real woman is objectified

Yeah, but all those rock climbers have small tits, ergo, big titties on Lara are not realistic.    Let's go halfway - you stuff those ripped broads in a pair of unisex JNCOs and give them all an Amy Schumer ass and have Eidos use them for the Lara model and I'll promise to let my girlfriend let me let our son let me have the game in the apartment that she's letting me stay in.

(Image removed from quote.)

Extremely lean, muscular, vascular. Ironically, the original versions of Lara Croft is more realistic for the physical activities performed in the Tomb Raider games than the "realistic body type" version they're cheering on.

Yeah. I can at least understand their point of view when it comes to women wielding swords in nothing more than a bikini. It doesn't really make sense. Lara Croft on the other hand has always worn clothing that is realistic and wouldn't seem out of place in the real world. If you saw someone on a hiking expedition dressed similar to Lara Croft, you wouldn't even bat an eyelid.

It’s definitey a refinement of the “ghostbusters 2016” marketing strategy.

I also think the movie infantilizes Africa. It blends all of their cultures into one Omni-culture and then uses noble savage tropes to tell it’s story.

If you look at it as a social impact/cultural/political statement, the story of Black Panther is somewhere between nonsensical and disturbingly insulting.

It's a twist on the noble savage story while placing its antagonist as a pretty simple minded violent revolutionary.  Somehow a macguffin meteor brought super technology and peace to a part of Africa without any exchange of ideas with the rest of the developing world. It doesn't reflect societal evolution at all.

However, its a great mystical setting with the crossroads of African settings, tribal dresswear and magical technology. And then it goes into awful CGI fights, but its at least a mystical magical story if you treat it like the comic book it is.

Instead of some sort of brilliant statement.

I've never seen a woman in tight fitting clothing that accentuates certain body parts. :p

What seems to get missed in all this is women sexualise themselves. The funny thing is, if I were to criticise the way young women dress, I would be attacked for being a disgusting misogynistic pig. You can't win.

I never quite understood why something like Xenoblades 2 is the most problematic and harmful thing ever while Nicki Minaj shaking her ass everywhere isn't. The latter arguably has a much larger effect on young women then fucking videogames.

Their argument is that Niki Minaj has agency and digital pixels does not.

You actually can win: by disengaging from fanatics and their forums or groups.  I know it's hard because it's such a spectacle and it's compelling to see just how far off the deep end people will go when packed into herds, but it does rub off.

They also got history wrong as in they created the protective dome way too late (post WW2 or during WW2 according to the animation).

Vibranium plot device or not Rommel and the Africa Corps would've steamrolled them back in '42 easily.
