No interest in discussing Peterson or anything with this forum. Complete waste of time. I would like to say that you can google "enforced monogamy" and find the research papers and literature on it. It's a social sciences and biology term. It basically means socially preferenced and standardized monogamy.

I'm more interested in pointing out the behavior here of people towards incels. Incels are downtrodden people. Not every one is a madman. Most are just socially awkward and starving for confidence. Many just may not be good looking. These are people who likely got bullied a lot and this forum sees them as their own bullying target. It takes a real piece of shit to want to hate on the already beat down. But that's what this place is about. What boom? Stand up comedy was always popular and a make it or break it business. 99% of people don't make it, funny or not. You have a heckler? Deal with it. Complaints? Deal with it.

There was the Boston comedy boom, the Comedy Central boom... and yeah, way less that 1% make it (with good reason) but you can't really do anything with a complaint you hear from a booker a week afterwards.

Jim Jeffries act didn't change when he switched countries. He's okay but not really my taste. Barry Crimmins never lost his Barry Crimmins-iness.

A lot of comedians do stuff they know will kill, but not what they personally consider their best. Sometimes you gotta dumb yourself down for the audience

I can't speak for anyone else but Jim Jeffries' primary appeal to me as an American is that he's a foreigner with American commentary, so maybe that has something to do with it.

In the US at least, every comic who can get their name up moves to NYC or LA as soon as they can, since the entire entertainment industry is built around those two places. There isn't much motivation financially to build up a 'local' scene. I mean look at Boston - the number of comedians originating from or filtering through Boston is insane, but every one of them moves the second they start to grow, and rightfully so. There are guys like Russel Peters who's very successful internationally, but virtually unknown in the US, but that's very much the exception and not the rule

Oliver is a better version of the Daily Show/Colbert on the journalism front, a big step back on the comedy front. Mainly because Oliver isn’t a great comedian. My girlfriend likes the show so I tend to end up watching most of them though.

As a side note, the few times I’ve caught the Jim Jefferies show it has been solid. But I haven’t watched it enough to really say....Though that might in large let have to do with one of those episodes being a long interview with Bill Burr.

In that case I would be wholly unsurprised if they just let it die. Valve could probably get away with anything, but it seems like implementing something like this would be a huge pain in the ass and require Valve to expound any amount of effort, which has been a huge ask from them for the last decade and a half or so
