The problem Pogi is that the gaming industry lives off on irrational hype and encourages it but at the same time is very quick to take their ball and go home as soon as things don't go the way they want to. It makes no sense to give corporate entities a gentleman conduct when they themselves don't play by those rules. Harrassment is deplorable but being cheeky and shitting on them is fair game as far as im concerned.
The usually used "think of the developers" angle is also pretty fucked up to dismiss critique. Aside from the above mentioned conduct by the industry, those very same companies continuesly push towards more predatory monetization models and optimisation in terms of profit. Seems very disingenuous to make those arguments when those "developers" themselves are part of a corporate machine that has no qualms to pursue profit over moral integrity.
Re: your last point, I'm on board with an affirmative decrying of predatory monetization. I haven't been following the Diablo thing too closely, but my understanding is that most people are mad because they wanted a
real Diablo game, and not a mobile game. Am I mistaken, and that the core complaints are with the monetization? Serious question.
Re: your first paragraph, there's a difference between an adult getting excited about a product they'll eventually get to play, and an adult getting mad about a product they'll never play. I agree hype cycles can go overboard, but that doesn't change the fact that adults crying over a product they'll never play is childish.
And given the below, I should clarify that there's a difference between hitting a "dislike" button to show your disinterest, and perusing twitter, looking for game journalists to be mad at because they called a dick move a dick move. I don't think that everyone disappointed and downvoting a trailer or poking fun is "outrage." I think people going on and on and on about it and compiling twitter images are the people "outraged."
Nah, I disagree with you all on this Diablo business. Getting outraged over a product announcement because you think it's lame is about as childish as it gets. An announcement of a game you don't like shouldn't warrant anything more than indifference in adults. I thought the same thing when babies cried over Federation Force's announcement. I think games journalists are usually lunatics, but on this I agree with them. Even if you somehow think the outrage is justified (it's not), it's indisputable that the guy was being a dick by asking that question in the mic. You may like that he was being a dick, but he was definitely being a dick. He was clearly trying to be a dick.
or maybe people booing and pressing a dislike button on a video and shitposting about it are not 'outraged'
you're falling into the same trap RE does.
says the guy who is claiming that any sort of dissatisfaction with a consumer product is an 'outrage'
Why are Nintendo fans so often terrible at either reading comprehension or logic?
