Either way in late September I'll be spending $700 on a new graphics card because it's past time for me to update and if I can't play games at 4k the terrorists have truly won.

From all of the rumors unless you get a Titan the gains will be incremental over a 1080ti. Like, 10%ish. Depending on what happens I'm likely to just get a 1080ti in late September, I expect the prices to drop by another $100-200 after the new products are confirmed cause pc gamers are insane.

It sucks that AMD can't make a decent fucking high end card these days, nvidia basically gets to set the market as they want it.

For that reason I feel like a solid Move is to just get whatever comes out shortly after the net generation of consoles. You basically know it will be a decent leap over the consoles but will probably carry you just fine through the next generation.

A new rumor is now making the rounds that has to do with a forthcoming GeForce RTX 2070, and this card sounds like a beast with a launch date tipped for some time in September. The specs leak for the RTX 2070 will have some reaching for wallets in preparation; this card is tipped to have 2304 CUDA cores and 8GB of GDDR6 RAM.

This leak also tips that the price for the RTX 2070 will be somewhere around the $400 realm. Performance is tipped to be about 40% faster than the old GeForce GTX 1070. Right above the RTX 2070, the RTX 2080 is expected to sit carrying a price of $500 to $700 and packing performance estimated at 50% faster than the GeForce GTX 1080.

I'm torn on what to do. I need a new card for the pc that I'm building, which I'd like to be as future proof as possible. (Going with an i7-8700k, 32 gb of ram, blah blah blah) I want to be able to game in 4k at the highest settings comfortably at 60 fps but have no need to play anything faster as I got a 60hz 4k monitor and don't give a shit for esportsy shit- I'm old and just wanna look at pretty shit on my monitor basically. I strongly suspect that getting a 2080ti is overkill for my needs.

Further complicating matters is that on 8/23 another round of President Shit for Brains tariffs (or maybe these are retaliatory tariffs hitting us, can't remember, but they're 100% President Small Hands' fault) are going into effect, which will hit computer components coming from China to the tune of about a 25% increase. But, like, is that an INSTANT increase on everything or just on shit that's not in the country yet? Should I preorder immediately tomorrow after Jensen is done with his spiel at Gamescom? Will I be limited to only preordering straight from nvidia or can I get shit from 3rd party vendors? I hate the closed blower style cards nvidia seems to favor with their founders edition shit. I would genuinely prefer not to have to deal with one. UGH FUCKING DECISIONS. 2080 or 2080ti???

4k/60fps is still out of my league.  I'm going to settle for a 2070 and go to 1440p this time around.  I also should be fine without having to upgrade my CPU (wish I had got the i7 ).  Maybe the next cards will make the 4k/60fps dream more affordable.

I wish PC games used interpolated resolution more, the difference between 1440p interpolated to 4k and 4k is minimal at best and would take care most of the issue where you need ridiculous amounts of power to reach basically the same IQ.

Yeah, the X1X and PSPRO really opened my eyes to how inefficient pc architecture can be. Despite the fact that I think a Hellblade is kind of mediocre, the graphics on the 1X are fucking amazing. There’s spots that I legitimately thought were pre-rendered until I went into photo mode and realized it’s all real time.

And I think it basically has like a roughly 980 equivalent gpu or something like that.

Like kind of a lot more people have 1060/1050/1050Tis than 1070/1080/1080ti according to steams survey

The 2070 comes in at $100 less than the 1080 so I don't expect prices to drop except maybe for clearance sales.
But supply of the 1080's wasn't that high to begin with.
