Don't be scared. Even though October is still a few days away, doesn't mean it's too earlier to get started. Share recommendations, write reviews, post Booette lewds, fill up your watchlists, and rank your favorite F13 movies.

2016 Thread
2017 Thread

Your bonus assignment this year, should you choose to accept it, is to watch Apostle, the new Netflix original movie from the director of The Raid and The Raid 2. It involves cult activity and looks inspired by The Wicker Man, but that's really all I know. Early reviews have been decent. Airs October 12th.

I started my Halloween movie watching early too, because last year I got too busy to watch too many. Today I watched Hotel Transylvania 3 and It, as well as catching up on American Horror Story and The Purge tv show.

A Dark Song was a huge nice surprise last year, hoping I find some more this year.

Unfortunately I got bit by the horror bug early so I've been tearing through some movies lately, depleting my pool for October.

- The Guest (9/23)
- Under the Shadow (9/17)
- Kill List (9/17)
- Ju-On: The Grudge (9/10)
- Dreamcatcher (9/4)
- Beyond the Gates (8/31)
- Beyond the Black Rainbow (8/19)

Especially since I try to do 31 each year -- which I actually did hit last year. :)

This was terrible, but a mediocre terrible.
Like 5 headed shark attack was terrible, but it was a great fun kind of terrible.
Then there's movies so terrible, they can't be withstood.
This is in the middle. Hilarious though.

Ah I only saw the remake.

It was some fun trash. :lol

Actually despite the movie itself being pretty bad, I really dug the style, atmosphere, and ideas, but I would guess most of those are lifted from the original. The actual plot and characters in the movie were just... :lol

+1. Japanese Pulse is one of those few horror movies that has almost no jump scares and manages to terrify entirely through atmosphere and suspense.

Started early and watched As Above, So Below, Creep 2 and Murder Party.

As Above, So Below was...surprisingly an Uncharted x Tomb Raider x Dante's Inferno movie? Like it's not great, but I thought it was pretty passable and enjoyed what it was going for with the treasure hunting mythos lore straight outta a videogame. Like this movie could've been a videogame. Was surprised that the RT is like 29%. Was expecting more like 50%ish. Although I read some reviews and a lot of reviews nailed the movie hard on the technical aspects of really awful shakey cam where you can't make out what's going on, which is completely true but I only found that a minor annoyance and it didn't really detract from the movie for me.

Creep 2 was pretty good. I was like how are you going to do a sequel to this without it just feeling the same? But they introduce a neat twist with a main character that throws the killer out of his element. The only thing I didn't like is it let me down in the end because I felt like it ditched that and went back to just killer vs victim whereas I would've liked to see a better twist in the end based on the main character fucking with the serial killer.

Murder Party was lol. I love Saulnier and can't wait for Hold the Dark. As his first amateurish film, it's a fun little bloody comedy. It's not great, but there are a bunch of good bits in it. It also has some nice direction here and there as shows glimpses of where Saulnier will go. It's not Blue Ruin or Green Room, but it's a good enjoyable movie and worth a watch. Also it was just added to Netflix recently which is what got me to finally watch it.

I thought As Above So Below was going to be some "Stay Alive"/"Feartdotcom" level piece of found footage shit, but it's actually really solid. One of my biggest pleasant surprises, horror-wise. I kinda wanna rewatch it. I'm so glad I ended up buying it and not renting it, I thought I'd made a mistake right after hitting "purchase" but after seeing the movie I'm glad I did. :D

We saw Hereditary the other day and thought it was pretty good, although nowhere near as scary/good as people were making it out to be.

They need to do a Director's Cut of the movie.

I think TVC told me there's a fan edit that's basically what the director said he wanted to do, but I haven't been able to find it.

I keep telling people to check As Above, So Below out. Its not a masterpiece by any stretch, but like Ghost Ship, its a really fun watch.

Hell House LLC 2 was pretty bad. I wasn't much a fan of the first, but all of the things I appreciated were ripped out for the sequel.

Will likely watch Fright Fest tonight. Then Trench 11, Fragile, Don't Leave Home, The Last Winter, Ghost Story, Party Night, The Nigh Sitter and maybe finish Slice.

Also, if you guys liked As Above, So Below, add Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum to your list.

I liked Gonjiam’s build up but the second half was weak af generic to me. Also it has like no plot, which is something I need in a horror film usually. I’d take As Above, So Below over it any day.

The Abominable Dr. Phibes  :delicious

I also enjoy The Sentinel, Piranha, the 70's remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and David Cronenberg 70's output (Rabid, Shivers, and The Brood).

I watched this last night. It's a dark thriller, so close enough to horror. It's abysmally terrible. It's so terrible I watch it every couple of months.

Both leads are so terrible. This is John Cusack at his absolute worst. He almost out-terribles the chick from Dexter, who is also terrible here. The thing is, you can tell that the people making this piece of absolute trash thought they were making the next Silence of the Lambs.

The TV show is better than all the sequels tbh. Scream 1 still feels fresher than horror movies being made today. What a gem.

I disagree on the TV show. I don’t remember specifics, but I hated the first season. I didn’t watch any more after that. Actually I may have bailed on the last couple eps. Maybe I should rewatch.

Alright, I need something to watch tonight. Someone recommend something or I’ll watch the entire I Know What You Did Last Summer trilogy. They all suck. And the sequels are nearly as bad as the Halloween sequels.

Hmm, I wonder if that’s legally available now. I had to pirate it a few years ago because it wasn’t streaming anywhere.

Oh, I watched Toxic Avenger again over the weekend. Not really a horror movie, but still the best movie ever made.

I endorse Terrifier. If you like seeing white women get stalked and butchered like animals in explicit detail, this movie’s for you. There’s no plot to get in the way.

Watching Scream TV. I forgot another thing I disliked: in their effort to cast young people with distinctive faces, they cast a few that look like muties.

Blood Diner (1987, dir. Jackie Kong)

This movie is pretty wild. It's about two brothers that run a vegetarian diner that's actually a front for the blood cult operated by their dead uncle, who's brain they reanimated and put in a jar. They're trying to resurrect their goddess, Sheetar, by killing slutty girls and sewing their various body parts together to make Sheetar's earthly vessel, before finally performing a virginal sacrifice as the moon aligns with Jupiter. None of this is played straight, it's all played for laughs and it's deliriously over-the-top. In one scene, a girl is having sex with her boyfriend in a cave during a thunderstorm, one of our protagonists rushes in a knocks out the boyfriend and then attacks the girl with an axe, only to have the naked girl beat him up with kung-fu before ultimately having a stalactite break loose and hit her on the head and kill her. In another scene, our heroes bust into a nude cheerleader aerobics session wearing Reagan masks and shoot everyone with a tommy gun that the police mention was stolen from the gangster museum downtown.

All the killing culminates with the "Blood Feast", a big stew full of body parts that they encourage the patrons of the club to eat with "hunger pills" that literally just turn them into zombies. The soundtrack alternates between a punk band playing "Stud Pony (Kick in the Stalls)" and classical orchestral music while the brothers perform their ritual to resurrect Sheetar and zombies riot on the dance floor. The cops eventually show up and shoot everyone that isn't already dead ("Is there anyone left alive?" "No." "Good, you did a good job. Now maybe the streets are safe from these freaks.") except for the virgin girl, who naturally survives.

Blood Diner has lot of blood & guts and T&A and from a :quark director too, nice. I give this movie 3.5 Friggin Vegan Burgers out of 5.
