GRRM being nice and thanking everyone

(Image removed from quote.)

There was a rumor a couple months back about GRRM working with Fromsoft. Guess it's true :rejoice

Lot of words about nothing:

Quote
And I’m writing.   Winter is coming, I told you, long ago… and so it is.   THE WINDS OF WINTER is very late, I know, I know, but it will be done.  I won’t say when, I’ve tried that before, only to burn you all and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A DREAM OF SPRING.

How will it all end? I hear people asking.   The same ending as the show?  Different?

Well… yes.  And no.  And yes.   And no.   And yes.   And no.   And yes.

I am working in a very different medium than David and Dan, never forget.   They had eight hours for this final season.   I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3000 manuscript pages between them before I’m done… and if more pages and chapters and scenes are needed, I’ll add them.   And of course the butterfly effect will be at work as well; those of you who follow this Not A Blog will know that I’ve been talking about that since season one.   There are characters who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the show but still live in the books… so if nothing else, the readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to meet.   And yes, there will be unicorns… of a sort…

Fucker will die before the series is done. lmao.

Also double lmao at learning about the pilot that was SO FUCKING BAD that it's not the actual first episode.

I enjoy that he lists out a bunch of the pointless characters that the TV show dispensed with.

Yo, who cares about Winds - imagine a Sekiro swordplay game with fucking KNIGHTS and shit!

Souls style feels like a natural fit with the more enigmatic parts of GoT. The Faceless men, the magic of the Night King, the Three Eyed Raven. The desolation of the North. But it already had Knights and Dragons and great swordplay. I don't really care either way, would prob lean towards them doing their own thing since it still feels like they have a lot of room to explore. But eh, if this affords them a bigger budget to do a Hollywood production, fuck it. The shitstorm about difficulty settings (fucked if they do, fucked if they don't) will be glorious.

From Soft already had 4 European fantasy ARPGs, can't say a slightly different flavor in the items text would excite me at all.

https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/game-thrones-season-8-finale-bran-daenerys-cersei-jon-snow-zizek-revolution-a8923371.html

Quote from: Daddy Z
This is why the battles in season eight follow a logical path from an external opposition to the inner split: the defeat of the inhuman Night Army, the defeat of Lannisters and the destruction of King’s Landing; the last struggle between the Starks and Daenerys – ultimately between traditional “good” nobility (Starks) faithfully protecting their subjects from bad tyrants, and Daenerys as a new type of a strong leader, a kind of progressive bonapartist acting on behalf of the underprivileged.

The stakes in the final conflict are thus: should the revolt against tyranny be just a fight for the return of the old kinder version of the same hierarchical order, or should it develop into the search for a new order that is needed?

The finale combines the rejection of a radical change with an old anti-feminist motif at work in Wagner. For Wagner, there is nothing more disgusting than a woman who intervenes in political life, driven by the desire for power. In contrast to male ambition, a woman wants power in order to promote her own narrow family interests or, even worse, her personal caprice, incapable as she is of perceiving the universal dimension of state politics.

But – let’s bite our sour apple now – what about Daenerys’ murderous outbursts? Can the ruthless killing of the thousands of ordinary people in King’s Landing really be justified as a necessary step to universal freedom? At this point, we should remember that the scenario was written by two men.

Daenerys as the Mad Queen is strictly a male fantasy, so the critics were right when they pointed out that her descent into madness was psychologically not justified. The view of Daenerys with mad-furious expression flying on a dragon and burning houses and people expresses patriarchal ideology with its fear of a strong political woman.

The final destiny of the leading women in Game of Thrones fits these coordinates. Even if the good Daenerys wins and destroys the bad Cersei, power corrupts her. Arya (who saved them all by single-handedly killing the Night King) also disappears, sailing to the West of the West (as if to colonise America).

The one who remains (as the queen of the autonomous kingdom of the North) is Sansa, a type of women beloved by today’s capitalism: she combines feminine softness and understanding with a good dose of intrigue, and thus fully fits the new power relations. This marginalisation of women is a key moment of the general liberal-conservative lesson of the finale: revolutions have to go wrong, they bring new tyranny, or, as Jon put it to Daenerys:

“The people who follow you know that you made something impossible happen. Maybe that helps them believe that you can make other impossible things happen: build a world that’s different from the shit one they’ve always known. But if you use dragons to melt castles and burn cities, you’re no different.”

Quote
So justice prevailed – but what kind of justice? The new king is Bran: crippled, all-knowing, who wants nothing – with the evocation of the insipid wisdom that the best rulers are those who do not want power. A dismissive laughter that ensues when one of the new elite proposes a more democratic selection of the king tells it all.

And one cannot help but note that those faithful to Daenerys to the end are more diverse – her military commander is black – while the new rulers are clearly white Nordic. The radical queen who wanted more freedom for everyone irrespective of their social standing and race is eliminated, things are brought back to normal.

 :lawd

I need an audio version of this, with the snorts and sniffles.

Now we need Daddy P's analysis.

"Daenerys represents the chaos dragon which is a manifestation of the female energy. The eunich represents the futility of the modern feminist man trying to conform to the subversion of heteronormative Western values.  Mhhhmm, right. And it makes sense that the masculine king sits on the throne and the mad witch gets stabbed in the chest."

man, I'm with agrajag now. khaleesi's story was fucked good. jon snow's story was fucked good. winter was fucked good. I know this isn't really high fantasy but years ago I was looking forward to the Azor Ahai resurrection / REAL Lightbringer prophecy culminating with Jon Snow's heroic arc and Daenerys' justice arc.

Maybe Jon Snow is supposed to kill Daenerys - but how about as the ultimate sacrifice to bring out Lightbringer's power to defeat the Night King, like in the legend? Maybe King's Landing was supposed to be destroyed, like in Dany's vision - but how about not retconning snow into ash, and letting the Night King kill Cersei instead? Take every lesson from the story and make it add up to something.

Stop projecting your hopes & dreams from the books into the fucking show

Lol I have enjoyed every season. Not sure why all of a sudden this season the show turned to shit. Its fucking hilarious to see some of yall get so worked up over the smallest littlest details. BUT CAN A DRAGON FIRE EVEN BREAK STONE?

But whatever like I said Ive enjoyed all seasons, sure there were some errors or stupid continuation errors but none of that impacted my fun and pleasure watching the show.

Really have a feeling some of yall watched it looking like this the entire time.

With an angry look, and a magnifying glass that everything that's not 100% up to snuff makes the show bad.

Oh well I thought it was a grandiose undertaking, the writers did the best they could and sometimes it def could have been written better but they worked with what they had and I respect them for that.

But I guess its easier to shit on them, make memes instead of looking from a realistic human standpoint.

I'm glad it's over so I dont have to be confronted by people going nuts over the smallest details. If anything is cringe worthy to me, that would be it.

( stuff like Euron attack by Dany? Yeah ok that was stupid fucking writing )

Alternative outcome:
- The council meets to pick a new King
Sansa: "John is and was the Rightful heir. If Dany had known her place she would've still lived. He should be our king"
Davos: "I fought and died for Stannis Baratheon because I believed he was the prince that was promised. I don't know much about magic and prophecies but I do know that Jon Snow is our promised King"
Grey Worm: "Jon Snow cannot be King"
Tyrion: "Daenerys burned Varys and with him, she burned reason. You would've fought and died for nothing had she still lived"
Sam: "I watched Jon die and then I watched him come back from the dead. He has a mission and I believe that Mission is to be our King"
etc.

What we got was:
Tyrion thinks: "Oh dear, guess these idiots can't decide on a King. Let's see, Bronn still wants my head so who is easy to manipulate and won't care about anything that is going on."
Tyrion: "ALL HAIL BRAN THE BROKEN!"
All: "What about Jon tho?"
Bran: "Fuck him, Just send him to the wall"

Lulz
This is going to blow your tiny dutch brain, but the show is based on the books

It is, and then the writer stopped writing and the writers of the show had to fill in the blanks itself.

Many things from the books aren't even mentioned in the show.

So yes it's stupid to project your assumptions and hopes from the book onto the show, since it has been clear for a few seasons that this is it's own story.

Would have liked for Jon to be king in the end too;  but also liked how he ended up King North of the Wall as really that's more fitting for his character.  Having people follow him despite not really trying to rule, and being the "King" of freefolk is a totally different type of "King" more fitting of Jon's personality.

Yeah, with the caveat that he was doing a Johnny Utah at the time, Jon seemed most at home among the free folk.

I think with online viewers this number is probably a lot higher, on both shows.

Ofcourse HBO is a pay to watch channel only, and a lot of people just download it.

GoT is the most watched show in the world with over 100 million viewers. There’s the live watchers but there’s also the HBO Go watchers and pirates.

It’s the pirates that really boost its numbers with over 80-90 million downloads at last count.

The series ended after eight seasons in 1999. Richardson was offered $25 million to do a ninth season; Allen was offered $50 million. The two declined the offer and the series came to an end as a result.[5]

The Home Improvement finale was so good, they begged Tim Allen to come back, but he respected the artistic vision of the writers too much to sully the show with a cash grab. :lawd

What would the cast look like?
And is it a reboot or a reboot with excessive violence and sex?

Either way, no.

I was thinking more Roseanne sequel

GoT is the most watched show in the world with over 100 million viewers. There’s the live watchers but there’s also the HBO Go watchers and pirates.

It’s the pirates that really boost its numbers with over 80-90 million downloads at last count.

It's a joke, not a serious post lol

I remember being sad af that home improvement ended as a kid  :'(

I must admit I thought Home Improvement was cheesy as hell, but I still watched it as a kid. Never saw a finale or anything like that, it wasn't airing in order here anyway

Do you guys really just think it's super kool that shosta spoiled the last episode by reading leaks and posting them in an unrelated thread hours before it aired?

Like the fact you guys are giving me grief for calling him out on that is some serious edgelord 12 year old shit.

The fact that you're perma-triggered about this is what is funny to me. You even were sitting there for an hour waiting for the moment just to go "goddamn it, Shosta..." in front of your wife.

Like dude, it's not as big a deal as you made it out to be. It sucks, yes. But come on.

So are we watching Chernobyl next guys?

Sci-fi coming back into vogue as I'm pretty much quitting TV. :'(

Either way, no.

I was thinking more Roseanne sequel

Home Improvement Season 9:

Tim's alt-right tool podcast gets banned from Facebook, his wife left him for Wilson, one or more of his sons have gotten gay married, and Al gets #MeToo'd by Heidi.
