a bunch of posters made posts along the lines of "again? lol, fuck that guy, plus hes racist and homophobic"
a mod posted a "Willie hears ya, willie don't care" gif shitpost, dismissing other users concerns
turns out the dude really did kill himself, and a bunch of people that got blown off for showing concern in the last thread are super fucking mad that the people who blew them off get to skate

Not even just that - People were banned for being an apologist for racism/homophobia when they dared to put his behavior in the context of his sickness.   When being a hardline asshole has consequences, they don't even allow a second of introspection, either.

I can say proudly there are members still alive today because of the good work that the team has done to help combat mental health issues in the community. It is something we always took very seriously, and there was a rigorous policy in place to help users when they show signs of suicide.

Alright, and I think it's fair to bring that up in a civil way, but this thread is turning into a giant witch hunt at this point. People need to remember that mods are human beings, they aren't perfect, they are going to make mistake or be inconsistent, and from the outside looking in it's easy to assume the worst, probably easier than trying to draw reasonable distinctions, but I think it sucks that these are good people who work really hard to build this community and people are so ready to not give them the benefit of the doubt and are quick to just throw them under the bus.
