Alright so hold the fuck up

The story goes:

- PDP pledges to donate $50000 to the ADL, which is a nice gesture to make I guess after the Christ Church shooter mentioned him
- RE collectively lose their shit because the ADL is apparently racist. There’s documented proof of RE’s responses. Some people also claim the donation is too small.
- PDP rescinds his donation to charity, saying that his fans informed him the ADL is not a good charity
- RE goes ballistic *again*, this time because he backed out

How do you win?

this follows their normal logic. if people they don't like hold an opinion, they need to go the opposite way.

The way I see it, cancel culture 100% exists.. but it's not really very effective for anyone actually all that famous and/or anyone whose audience isn't almost 100% "progressives."   I think those people take credit for deplatforming people when their deplatforming had little to do with internet mobs.

The people who actually have their careers effected tend to either have done or admitted to heinous shit or pissed off their actual audience.

If you are a famous progressive, the cancel culture mob can certainly fuck you.. or if you are small time and don't have a lot of money backing you up.  But beyond that you have to fuck up pretty bad and your "cancelling" probably has little to do with internet mobs and more to do with the people with money deciding they don't want to associate with you.

PDP has nothing to fear from people wanting to cancel him on Twitter and ERA.

Joe CasualRacist from Morgantown WV who tweeted something vaguely racist and has now lost his job and is getting death threats levied at him and his family however...

I ate a ban on reset for joking that grandmothers who still call black people “colored” on Facebook should lose their Medicare. They’re deadly serious about removing Joe CasualRacist from society.

or bringing it around to marrec's totp

you can't say "cancel culture doesn't exist" and "deplatforming works"

however it is completely accurate to say "cancel culture absolutely exists" and "deplatforming is mostly ineffectual"

pdp should send an abassador to era to post a poll asking which charity he should actually donate to, and then pick the winner

Sometimes I wish I had a RE account just to call out people in the streaming threads.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/why-is-cloud-gaming-often-viewed-as-a-threat-to-consoles-but-not-pc-gaming.140614/page-3#post-24468553

Firstly I have geforce now and about 80% of my steam library isn’t available, they are shown but won’t launch and show an error message about not compatible with the service currently (yeah it’s beta but still I’d imagine valves service would... you know .....have all your games available).

And I’d ask him how he’s liking GTA5 on it. (Hint rockstar pulled its availability likely because of upcoming stadia streaming exclusivity.) And the latency while decent with a controller can be instantly felt using a mouse, like literally the cursor has a small but perceptible latency to it.

He just comes across as someone who can’t keep up with pc gaming and is convincing himself why streaming is just as good.

I don't understand why cloud gaming isn't more canceled than it is by era crowd

it's the most capitalistic thing ever

it's essentially ableist/discriminating against the poor by demanding they upgrade their internet service and increasing their monthly bills

a service that posits the unspoken question, why don't you just move closer to a datacenter

oh why don't I move, why don't I uproot my entire life just to center it more effectively around your special snowflake service?

So I know we all have some fun jokes about pedo James and his gang of young squids, but I really do care about the health and welfare of our human children, and generally date -/+ 5 years of my age.

I stumbled across this subreddit today...and yikes.

If you're a predator looking to hit up kids, this is literally a candy mine

https://www.reddit.com/r/teendatingv2/

How is this allowed?

Reddit is such a horrible website.

I can't imagine being a parent today with the internet in this state. Yes, yes, back in the day we had Yahoo chat rooms, but whats a kid going to do, give the predator their land line?

Now every 7 year old has a phone and is a click away from snap chat or whatever the kids use to share nudes.

On one hand, the UK porn ban registry thing is dystopian government control nightmare thing.

On the other hand, maybe 12 year olds shouldn't be a key stroke away from every kind of porn known to man?

The UK porn ban things probably not happening because the person who really wanted it has zero political power any more, and every time someone has the bright idea to suggest widespread internet monitoring for political capital, the security services step in and have a quiet word that they'd really rather prefer nothing overt like that is done, because the dangerous criminals people actually should be worried about are easier to monitor if they don't think anyones paying attention.

If you widespread adoption of encrypted VPNs by a sizable portion of the country who want to jack it in peace, you get a widespread portion of the populace you can no longer monitor for activities people actually don't want to happen.

Kids are using proxies in elementary school to access sites where they download videogames on pirate Google Drives, I don't think cracking down on that will solve anything.

I dont think the issue is the smart kids going out of their way to access the stuff.

Im concerned about the stuff thats not just out in the open, but easy to accidentally come across.

I mean the entire reason I use reddit is because it has so much great porn. As a well adjusted adult, thats fantastic.

But maybe there should be some distance between the Minecraft Memes for the 12 year olds and the facial compilations?

My opinion hasn’t changed, but if simpleton clown picture memes is how you choose to respond to discussion then I’m not surprised basic comprehension is beyond you. Pure nonsense.

Really the issue isn't really the charity but more about the reasoning for the retraction.

Is this an admission that they will shit on him regardless?

Shit, why did I decide to point out his choice of clothing on an ign tweet about this?!

Now I got pepe avatars calling me delusional and pointing out that it isn't technically an iron cross or that even if it was, an iron cross isn't a nazi symbol...

So, Era likes the ADL now?

It took PDP withdrawing his 50k pledge to get them to like the Jews?

What a strange world.

He didn't even give a reason beyond "I heard bad things about this charity" so to claim that he's doing it for the wrong reasons is dumb as fuck

I don't think there is an answer other than:  people should probably use law enforcement when they are sexually assaulted not social media.    And everyone not directly involved should maybe STFU a bit or at least not be so adamant about being on one side or the other.
Why are you attacking and trying to silence the true victims?

You go to college to get a piece of paper so you can get a job (supposedly), not to actually learn anything. Just figure out what they want to hear to give you a passing grade and repeat it back. Don't actually take it seriously.

I spent 6 years studying computer science, and it was challenging and rigorous as hell, taking me through calculus, physics, biology, chemistry, computer engineering, and programming. All taught by people who knew their shit. I came back to college to do polisci to help shift my career in a certain direction

Someone else corrected the guy who was wrong immediately. I'm not used to discussion classes. If the professor is teaching politics should the professor not tell the class what is the truth instead of relying on other students to do it?

Beyond that, the topics that are brought up here regularly drive me to read more in-depth articles to inform myself for these discussions, which is something that my classes hardly ever encourage.
OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED FOR THIS COURSE:
Every piece of information ever.

Nope, I'm at the senior level, 4000-numbered courses. And they're all like this. I had a quiz in my political theory class, 4000/4th year level, and it was 10 multiple choice questions matching up vocab words from the reading to their definitions. We were given 15 minutes and I finished it in 15 seconds. I haven't been this relaxed about school since second grade.
Quote from: GrizzNKev
I'm only two weeks into this major and I've never had a discussion class before, so I was hesitant to speak up in those situations. If I become "that guy" for doing it, so be it.
Personally, I'd just stop showing up at class except for exams/papers and instead spend all your time reading ResetERA.com.

Repeat until degree is acquired.

I bet GrizzKev reads faster silently than when speaking out loud.  That's why he is Good will Hunting all his profs.
