I like how they've started talking about "AA games", as if AAA is a meaningful and strict definition.

AA games means everything to all people on REE. It's basically indie game = 2d pixel art, AAA = crazy graphics, AA = the rest.

I enjoy how they act like Japanese schoolgirl porn and sister love is weird when the top categories on American porn websites are incest and barely legal.

And if they think Japan sexualizes minors, they've clearly never watched a cw teen drama.

Hell, the critically acclaimed Netflix series Sex Education features an explicit sex scene between two 16 year old characters

16 year olds with fantastic tiddies.

I'm allowed to say that, it's on Netflix.

Quote
The Shane Gillis debacle made the "cancel culture" debate rise again, with more conservative voices saying that we live in an era where no one can make any mistake because THE CANCEL CULTURE will show up and "cancel them", basically make them persona non grata in their work space. It's interesting to see the reaction of predominantly white voices with the fear of being "cancelled" at any moment: past racist and misogynistic remarks to sexual misconduct being "dug up" by the internet police looking for their next victim.

But that fear stems from something that social media has done: given the general public the power to cancel as much as wealthy people in power (predominantly white straight males) have for the past decades.

I can't help but think how many actresses were "cancelled" by Harvey Weinstein. About Colin Kaepernick being cancelled by 32 NFL owners and the commissioner's office. You can go back to the red scare and think about how many people were "cancelled"due to communist affiliations.

What's different is that the people who were cancelled didn't do anything wrong. They had the audacity to stand up against power and were punished for it. In most cases, the punishment was utter silence. Mira Sorvino and Rose McGowan were mostly thought to be just young actresses who flamed out, until the Weinstein story painted a new picture as to how two talented people suddenly disappeared from mainstream attention.

Social media canceling isn't that. It's more of a desperate plea to see consequences for shitty behavior. I definitely believe in forgiveness and people changing for the better (see: James Gunn). But to look at "cancel culture" as the problem and not the result of decades of (your) shitty behavior going unpunished to me says maybe you should be cancelled for a little while and think about what hills are worth dying on.

Nobody is their worst moment, but it's no surprise that those who are against "cancel culture" are a parade of terrible moments that have gone unchecked for years.

:era

That didn’t make cancel culture okay back then.

Interesting take - and yea, I agree. Before the voices in power could snuff out those without power. Social media has given the disenfranchised or marginalized a way to fight back.

:era

But the people cancelling people are people in power that are protecting their own power by giving stupid assholes like you kool aid about “how important” is bitch about a comedian. Look who are the motherfuckers in power or how little are interested on “free speech” outside of politic talking points. WHY ARE YOU GUYS THIS DUMB?

It depends on what you're saying by "cancel culture". The right uses it for fearmongering, "anyone can be the victim of cancel culture", "the left is coming after you" etc. It's none of that though, what it is is just the power of social media to hold public figures accountable.

The most prominent example of someone "weaponizing" cancel culture for personal gain was when neonazis used it to fire James Gunn. And even then it didn't actually work in the end.

 :doge

You know it “didn’t work” at the end because the people in power decided that they couldn’t give two fucks and the actual film crew were directly involved to try to get him back?

Why pretend people left leaning don’t silence people when you guys have a entire forum driven by banning dissenting opinions and the people usually safe from this are the same people cheerleading that thread?
