I never said it wasn't a valid criticism of EGS...

Man the Epic Games Store is the new gaming side virtue signal topic.. bunch of probably US/UK people screaming about how EGS destroys the hobby for people in countries where the pricing sucks or their currency or favorite payment method isn't supported.   Get that shoved in your face if you shrug off caring about it...

:confuse

"Get that shoved in your face if you shrug off caring about it..."

I don't personally care much about regional pricing because it doesn't effect me;  and I don't think it's worth brow beating people because it's not some moral issue.  They act like you walked into a thread about children starving and said you don't care because your Mom just made you tendies.

It's a valid criticism.. it sucks for the people it effects.. if other people really care that much in countries where it doesn't effect them.. hell.. good for you.  I highly doubt those people even REALLY CARE though, they just want to be on a soap box.. I bet half of them don't even own gaming PCs and have never set foot in the countries this effects.

There are also people in those countries who post on Resetera and they in general aren't screaming down anyone saying they don't care much about EGS;  it's other people making the huge deal.. AKA virtue signaling.  "I CARE ABOUT THIS ISSUE!"  (not really)

I love paying the equivalent of 70 dollars for a 60 dollar game. /s

Kotaku UK does not delete articles. On the internet, what would be the point anyway? We admit our mistakes, own them, and update the original to reflect new information.

Maybe if parent group Gawker didn't have a "we don't delete shit muhfucker" it wouldn't have run into those legal problems, and kotaku wouldn;t have just been sold off (again) for pennies on the dollar

I mean... I told you why it does effect you, regardless of where on the continuum your personal stance is between

and

This entire thing is the most ridiculous shitstorm ever and it would be nice if Era didn't devolve into those very same clickbait standards.

Also there's now twice as many articles on Kotaku about this urgent and pressing matter than there are about THQ 8chan's AMA.

For being such a "Truth to Power" crowd, they are totally willing to believe in a person caught in their own lie.

Quote
These comments are doing the rounds on Twitter, and while I can't verify them as the source is apparently Kinda Funny Facebook, it puts a hell of a lot of blame on Kotaku/management

Quote
So it wasn't her fault but her boss' fault? That makes quite a lot of sense considering her behavior last night.

Quote
Given history and experience from other people who have worked alongside the author in question I highly doubt this is the case. Including people I know from the industry who have worked in close proximity. This seems like a Grade A deflection but at this point comes to personal attacks that I could get flamed/in trouble for.

Regardless the posts they were making on groups and stuff seem textbook deflection and self victimizing to avoid responsibility. And up until it was flagged they seemed to stand behind the article's writing.

Oh well, what's done is done.

Quote
So if this is real, her boss basically published her story without her consent? And now they don't want to take any of the responsibility? What the fuck.

Maybe Laura would have agreed to put the article up with those changes, maybe she wouldn't have. But the blame is completely on her boss if they bypassed her when publishing this article. Again, assuming this is legit.

Quote
Interesting.
LKD wanted to review it and hold off before being sent up. Had "seems to be" and non-confirmative statements suggesting it may not be fact. Boss decides to remove all the non-confirmative parts and goes aheads to publish without LKD approval...

Now is being prevented from any statement saying as such. Something going down in that office of theirs

Quote
This does seem to match up with what her deleted tweets said. I don't have screenshots or something of the tweets but people talked in the previous thread about this about her saying on Twitter that her editor put it out before she could get responses: https://www.resetera.com/threads/ko...lity-slur-update-doesnt-seem-to.112306/page-2

Quote
Now I feel worse for LKD and have moved from annoyed to genuinely disgusted at Kotaku UK if this is true.

A good rule of thumb I like to use when considering whether or not I am going to get caught up in these "gaming controversies" is the "ask a normal person scale".

I think to myself, if I told my mother/father/friend-not-into-gaming about this issue, how much of a  :iface -face would they make?

It becomes pretty clear in most cases that these issues are just a bit  :gddr5
