Y'alls obsession with a few pictures from Klepek's past is desperate but also kind of endearing.
Marrec this post would come off as more credible if you didn't habitually post here, with the rest of the rabble.  :doge

I'm the Bad Boy (tm) of ResetERA who's here to continually finger wag at everyone who ever posts anything on either website.

How do I get VICE Games to pay me to write gender bender fanfics?

Do you have any pics where you creeped on women and made rape jokes?
Don’t forget that he was already in college at the time, joking about rape and hate crimes. Everybody did that past the age of 14 right?

'Resident Evil 2' is a scary, effective fantasy of permission and scarcity. But I want to be a different kind of survivor.

Why does Resident Evil 2 make me fight zombies, I just want to be a peaceful medic and help people survive!
Funny enough, we just passed the 25th anniversary of the publication of this:

(Image removed from quote.)

"We have a challenge to EIDOS. In Tomb Raider III, create a storyline in which Lara gets breast cancer. Imagine the drama of a vulnerable Lara Croft still persisting on her worldly adventures despite her illness. It needs fleshing out, no pun intended, but we guarantee the gaming world would be shocked, stunned, and moved by the effort to make Lara's character more meaningful."

I know y'all have no moral qualms with those kind of jokes, it's just about the man Patrick has become and a weapon to undercut his already tenuous credibility as a "journalist". Y'all have to know that it's not going to work by this point though right? No one ACTUALLY cares about the pictures, not because they're all in on a performative wokeness but because Patrick doesn't do stupid shit like that anymore. So the continued obsession feels increasingly desperate and disingenuous and undercuts any actual criticism you might have of Patrick's vapid writing.

Let's reveal this for what it is: a weaponized alt-right/GamerGate meme. Its origins are me cracking a joke at the game throwing some half-naked women at me, nothing more. What it's been used for, and what its passive mention here makes clear, is a blatant, bad faith attempt to undermine my credibility. Maybe it's possible you don't know that, and I'll try to grant the benefit of the doubt. But based on past history, this usually only comes up from specific people, for specific reasons.

This has to be first time that the mods considered it inappropriate to attack someone for past misdeeds, even going as far as to remove the images. The irony is that from what I know even THQ has issued more apologies than Klepek

Why does Resetera needs to delete the pictures and imply that is a Gamergate ploy?

I don't think he's really that ashamed because the pictures are pretty banal and the ResetERA mods delete the pictures because they're obviously posted in bad faith and they're posted in bad faith because no one actually cares about banal pictures from Patrick's youth except for people who fantasize about some sort of retribution against Patrick for imagined crimes against Gamers (tm)

Someone can correct me if I’m misremembering, but they never accused the developers of “trying to support colonialism.”

A game (or any media) can unintentionally comment or take a stance on a concept. That doesn’t protect it from criticism, and frequently the people at Waypoint give creators the benefit of the doubt when it comes to those instances. Don’t recall them accusing Capcom of propagandizing colonialism, but feel free to quote where they said that.

Aside from that, if your argument’s based on “it’s a take that no one else had,” then consider that so few gaming outlets ever even acknowledge themes/philosophies in games, let alone stuff like treatment of trans characters in game stories (or hold a fundraiser to support trans causes in real life).

“No one else had this take,” is more an indictment on the rest of games media, and even the Cliff Notes version of their critique of MHW’s colonial elements was better founded than your argument here.

The best takes!

Who knows how many have even read it. It's weirdly accepted to be against even looking at media in that way. This doesn't just apply to video games, obv

“I feel bad for killing dragons in a video game, I feel like Trump Jr”.

Their mistake is to believe that any critical take is inherently good and worthwhile. I suppose PETA complaining about animal abuse in Super Mario was actually a really important take and it's a true shame it was ridiculed

I think most critical takes are indeed worthwhile on some level. Though they're not necessarily good (to comment on that PETA example you used as an analogy). I never really read Waypoint though I'm familiar with some of its writers by way of other podcasts (Zacny in particular, Riendeau too. Walker I only heard a handful of times) but honestly I don't mind the idea of a videogame site tackling stuff from the angle of social or political debates and in fact it's probably welcomed that the press strive to be something a bit more than just "product reviews" and ascended hobbyists.

Yeah all the excerpts Benji posted over the years are funny / bad and typical examples of critical overreach, but you know... They're trying (or they tried). And while I agree with the Obliteradoxx that none of it is revolutionary or that it's political extent might be a tad shallow, I do think it was worthwhile despite its flaws though I'm not invested in it (except for Rob Zacny, dude is a good strategy game reviewer, 3MA is a great podcast which actually had some good insights including "political" ones about wargames -more often than not I'll side with Bruce Geryk and his no nonsense approach to the matter-, I wouldn't want him to be thrown back in the hell of freelancing).

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The preachy and self righteousness are the reason why they were so off putting. I will celebrate a site that tried to be like Waypoint without the smug shallow grandstanding  wokeness that permeates social media.

My critics = alt-right.

The mantra of every game journalist. :rejoice

That they convinced a portion of the public to actually believe this is a pretty remarkable feat. :obama

Braindead fans of the Star Wars sequels tried to use the same method to deflect criticism.
