Depending on where you are from, calling 911 on someone could be a very effective way to get them killed, so it is possible the baddie in this hypothetical situation would be you

That is how you dismiss concerns AND stay woke.

Let me tell you a little story of the last time I went to an NYC era Meetup:

Arrived right on time at the bar. Someone from the group's already passed out, little bit later on pukes all over bar floor. We get kicked out of the establishment (we were pretty much the only patrons there to being with). Move to the next place. Have a pretty good time, good food, convo, drinks. Someone, a bit drunk, goes outside to wait for a friend. Don't hear from him for a while, consider he left for the night. We wrap up at the current place and stand around outside. We see some commotion at a nearby car, some people looking inside at someone sleeping in it. People peering in open the door. They are apparently the owners of the car. The person sleeping? The ERA member who left to wait for his friend, somehow made it some stranger's car to take a nap. Group starts walking in search of food, half break off to go to one place, more people break off to another place, I'm left with maybe 2 others, then just decide to call it a night.
In fairness, that is not normal. The guys who caused the problems don't come out anymore.

Ever hear of resetera??  :kermit

16 is young but it's not like that's too young to decide shit for yourself.

But i'd feel like it'd be creepy if it was a 16 year old girl, which I guess is pretty sexist of me.

Ah, another Pedophile on the Bire for James to ally with. *notes this down*

If only there was a country in the world where for a specific period of time all nazi imagery in videogames was entirely banned that we could point to and the ongoing existence of neo-nazis within that country and say "No you fucking idiot, that didn't solve shit"

Should probably pick a country where they at least tried to denazify if you're going to make this point.

I dunno, I feel like Germany did a pretty good job ostracizing the whole nazi thing from popular politics.  Unless of course you mean the Resetera definition of Nazism, which is basically just an interchangeable word for 'the right wing'.

I'm not the one making the claim that playing as nazis in videogames has a definite causal link to making people become nazis in real life, so I'm not the one who should be looking at a real world control group to verify that claim

When Kriegsfibel was first submitted for publication it was rejected for a few reasons, but one of the reasons was that the photo of Göring was too flattering (even though the accompanying text calls him a butcher and a thief). It was very illuminating when I first read this.

It's not in the afterward to my copy, but I swear I've read that a reason for the continued resistance to publishing it in the DDR was that there was concern people would cut the photos of Nazi leaders out of the book for personal shrines. How much stock you want to put in something like that is of course up to you.

The notion that politically charged media can't be fun or humorous is super reductive, and a story about “power and how power is used against people who don’t have it" sounds pretty damn political.

Is how you guys want those games being political charged what makes them unfun. You guys are humorless assholes.

For me, it's the PC fandom's use and normalization of "PC Master Race" that ticks me off the most because it was so obvious what was going to happen and was happening yet no one involved did NOTHING and those who did were shot down.

Even years later I've still disgusted, when Tyler Wilde, executive editor of PC gamer at the time flat out said way back 2015 that people were using it unironically (which no, you shouldn't be using terms like ironically either) and were embracing it and the dangers of that, Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw had the gall to claim Wilde was being the "thought police" and flat out said it was GOOD thing that kids were using Nazi terminology without knowing the history of it... WTF... WTF.... Oh and what do you know, places like steam where that term was fully embrassed are now full of actual Nazi... WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THAT HAPPENING /s

I will never understand who Yahtzee gets away with every awful sexist, racist, pro-alt-right (remember he's happily stuck with The Escapist) crap he's pulled or why so many consider him this vanguard or criticism, wit and what a "gamer" should be, we should never have allowed Nazi terminology and imagery be normalized like that and people like him and the companies who endorsed the terms get at least called out on it.

Seriously stop using that term.

How is there no thread on "the most popular independent gaming forum on the internet as measured by traffic" about the Kotaku douchebag copying some random's Mario Maker level?

You would think that a place which self-describes as an "inviting bonfire at the crossroads of the gaming industry" would be keen to discuss the ethics of games journalists, wouldn't you? Seems like something they would usually screech incoherently about.

Yes, I know the story is just a big delicious hamburger sandwich. Maybe this was the one time that they decided waiting for some evidence was a good idea.

Edit: lol at the fucking word filters on this site!!!!

A Canberra man who used a popular video game streaming service to trick children into undressing for the camera has walked free from the ACT Supreme Court, after being allowed to serve his sentence in the community.

The court heard the 23-year-old had posed as a young woman online, making contact with children from Australia and overseas via the live-streamed gaming platform Twitch and the chat app Discord.
The man would ask his victims, some of whom were as young as 10, to do certain acts, such as remove their clothing, which he captured on video, even offering them money.

So the social media rep for EC has come out and said that anybody who disagrees with this opinion is "a bigot"

Yikes

This is a bare faced lie. They said they're fine if bigots unsubscribe. Not that everyone who unsubscribes (let alone disagrees) is a bigot.

That extra credits video is stupid, their argument is no different from Mortal Kombat and Doom make players killers in the 90s and Jack Thompsons crap about gta in the 00's.

No, smashing shit up and blowing up cars in GTA doesn't "have to mean something". As for WW2 the setting is just window dressing for the gameplay/graphics. I mean go ahead and try and lobby to force people to watch Schindlers List before they can make their next WW2 fps game online account if it makes you feel like your making a difference.
