why Hong Kong was a British colony in the first place, because its one of the more outrageous corners of British History;
China protested the amount of British merchants selling opium to chinese citizens, because, you know. Its fucking
opium. It was causing a real problem to society.
So we went to war with them to protect our rights to sell opium.
And beat the shit out of them.
So badly that we took Hong Kong as a punishment for them daring to try and stop us selling them opium, but it wasn't just an
outright theft. We put a time limit on it. Of >150
years.
