As an ambassador of Eraville I'd like to share some of the great things you can expect. We will have an extensive neighborhood watch patrol called The Side Eyes to look for any hidden alt right boogeymen that could be lurking within our 3 day old underwear smelling lands. And when we find one(and we will) our fine citizens will be encouraged to punch them at every opportunity while any family members will be required by law to disown them immediately.

We have weekly meetings with the "Prominent Members" to discuss how to "ban" someone from the community whenever we hear from The Side Eyes task force that a person was watching The Joker movie one too many times.

The Avengers theme is our national anthem. For entertainment we have daily mandatory debate events yelling about The Last Jedi. Gamers are not welcome, though you can still play and talk about games from our pre approved list. Remember, no gamers.

We have a wall and an extensive screening process to keep out alt right invaders but we also can't have a wall cause that's Trump's idea. Instead we have implemented Schrodinger's Wall.

It truly is a city built on seven hills to die on.

I feel like a lot of people are treating this piece like something they'd read on Kotaku or something, and I can say, as someone who has written for Kotaku, I would have written it very differently for that specific avenue. This is a piece primarily meant for designer friends to read, it was not expected that it would become this popular. You aren't the target audience, the people who want to know about things like the ins and outs of the animation of Into The Spider-Verse are the target audience. It's technical nerd-out shit, not an article meant for people who like arguing about metascores on forums.

See, I don't agree with that premise at all. A bargain bin DVD release would have neither the production value, nor the acting prowess of the characters in The Last of Us. If you mean purely on plot alone... well... Then I have some news for you. Just about every blockbuster film is derivative and trope laden. Movies are judged on their execution, not purely on their originality alone. The ending of The Last of Us makes it more creative than the half of post apocalyptic fiction alone.

My favorite movie of all time is Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, but I prefer TLOU because I formed an emotional bond with the characters I never did with Peter and Roger and the rest of the mall crew from DOTD.

Video games, like the war it's vast majority of movies and TV shows, are dumb entertainment. I read more of that Medium article than was warranted by his writing. Him saying "these games are actually dumb, unlike the games I make," is dumb, and RE getting upset that he called Last of Us dumb is dumb, because all games are dumb.

Can games make you feel things? Sure. BotW is my favorite game because of the feeling of exploration. And some games make me care about the characters. So since they can make you feel things, does that mean they're "art"? Depends on your definition, but I guess.

But who cares. Because do games deserve respect? No. By far the biggest impact they will have on your life will be the time they use up. Life enrichment coming from games is nonsense, with maybe an odd exception here or there for some individual.

Just remember what your typical game dev is like, and then ask yourself, do they really have something to say that would enrich my life?
