I think Yang should change his messaging. You gotta go for shock and awe.
People can't do math. Don't say $1k a month, say $12k a year. Say $24k a year for two parent households. If people are worried that their money is being taxed and then given back to them, say that your family always comes out net positive until you spend
over $240k a year. It's a wealth transfer from untaxed corporate transactions to the 95%.
Stress the radical change that's within our grasp. No more poverty. Practically no more homelessness (there's not much you can do for crazies, but most homeless are locked in a vicious cycle of circumstance). No more coming out of jail and having nothing left to start over with. No more getting coerced to do a wage slave job because you're afraid of eviction. It's the greatest general strike fund in human history.
Scare people with the future. Cause a panic. 30% of jobs at risk from technological gains in the next ten to twenty years. That's the low end estimate from every source I can find. Retraining programs don't work: 0% to 20% success rate with only 10% of displaced workers qualifying. 50 year old truck drivers are not going to learn to code. Retail workers, clerks, accountants, fast food workers, waiters, sales, you're all fucked. Show them this picture:
