I'm throwing this suggestion out here in addition to other suggestions and this is more of my governmental self on this, how about we establish a moderation watchdog similar to the Office of Inspector General or the Office of Special Counsel where the admin and staff, in unanimous agreement, or regular users who wishes to nominate a user, nominates an independent user as an inspector general to which to be advise and consent to every user on the forum or at least have users sign up for it. Having a simple majority or 60% say aye to confirm the user to a one year term which can be renewed up to a limit of 3 years. This user would be charged to lead with examining the actions of the moderators as a general auditor of their operations to ensure they are operating in compliance with generally established policies of the website, to audit the effectiveness of security procedures, or to discover the possibility of misconduct for the staff and admins. If there is misconduct conducted by a admin or moderator reported by a user, the IG will investigate this report and would determine if that moderator did operate in misconduct. If that moderator is found to operate in misconduct, the IG will report to the admin to determine disciplinary actions such as a ban or having their moderation powers revoked.

Another suggestion would be to establish an office similar to the Department of Justice's Office of Special Counsel where only regular users can nominate an independent user as an independent counsel to advise and consent to the same terms and rules except the powers of this counsel to ban and revoking a moderator without having to go to the admin.

Again this is simply a suggestion, if anyone needs to point out any flaws or loopholes, I'm right here.

ResetERA was setup already as a site before EviLore's story broke, and people like Nibel/shinobi had already been reaching out to different OTs about the launch of a new site.

This was before any sort of moderator unrest or drama.

All of a sudden people find this obscure post on the comment section of Facebook, PoliGAF ends up as all mods/admins/owners of an llc owning the site and the "influencers" who had reached out to OTs prior also got mod positions.

Moderation is never perfect on any forum and not here either, but it does not seem like there were any mistakes with Ketkat's ban. Ketkat has been banned before for being a bad faith agitator and for bad behavior here. Violating a private minoritiy discussion to try to snipe at the moderation? Yeah, that's not justifiable. The issue isn't moderators coming in to share their views. It's that they (broad use - not all) persistently lack an acknowledgent of what trans members on the forum put up with for months in threads surrounding them and their issues. That these became the least accessible places for trans people to discuss their concerns.

Jumping in to talk about how the discontent that has been expressed as a consequence of the above has reduced staff morale and made them upset is poor. Yet it happened in the first staff post. It happened in the second, and it's still happening.

This didn't come out of nowhere and more words have been written asking for the consideration of staff feelings, than have for the people that had to endure that failure in general moderation for those months.

Why do I feel like any thread he's talking about he probably has like 40 posts in? With lots of orange highlighting. And self-quoting.

Firstly. Thank you for making an attempt at some public discussion. I have more than a few words to say, which we'll get to now, but I want to make sure you know that I achnowledge this attempt at a first step.

Hecht. I've had this discussion with you before, and things clearly haven't changed since then. I can't speak to first-hand knowledge, but I'm sure you've had this disucssion many separate times with far more people than just me. This is not a valid excuse. You-- right now-- are not valid. Making it all about yourselves and how hard it is to do us right as if it's all our fault is part of what lead to these threads needing to be made, because as it stands, Era staff are fairly navel gazy. You cannot in one hand ask for us to see things from your side and in the other refuse to even achnowledge ours.

So let me ask you, for when you wake up and have had time to wake up. What's different? What makes this arrangement of words any more impactful than the last time the admins have had them said through whatever mouthpiece? You can say "We're listening" all you want, but there's no historical record to support that statement, just dozens upon dozens of reiterations of itself. There's closed discussions with nothing changing on endless repeat for two years while more and more people grow increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of moderation. Moreover, you say that it's the members that are thinking of staff as "The other", but time and time again, it's proven to be the other way around. What you're doing right now is called projection.

I get that the idea of instant responses and perfect responses is something that some members want out of you. That's not possible, and we both know that it's not possible. But you're using those members and those arguments as a shield against legit criticism and as a result the discussion never moves forward from there. You can't make instant, or perfect responses-- but there is precious little stopping you from making even adequate responses. And making adequate responses would shut a lot of these people up. So, why the resistance? Why did it need to take all of this for this discussion to even happen in the first place? Again, nobody is expecting perfection. I know I can't speak for others with this but I don't even need total transparency. I feel like what the staff have done wrong here is something that would have been obvious had someone taken the time to step back and cool down before rashly making actions that they then had to work backwards from in justificaiton.

Part of the problem(imo) is the lack of diversity on the Admin team. The mods are diverse, but 6/7 of the Admins are male. Which is kinda wild when you think about it. And I'm willing to bet money that 4 or more of the men are white.

As a former mod, I don't think people understand the gravity of this.

There is stuff I know about various people on the board, actions taken, posts deleted, issues IRL, etc. that was all on that server. I have talked about none of those specific issues, people, and actions since being demodded, because it comes with the territory. Accessing it and poking around in there is not ok whatsoever because it's not just about violating the privacy of the admins in the minority channel, it's the privacy of every single person and topic that would come up for discussion. I don't know how on earth you can come back from that type of egregious breach of trust on multiple levels.

I wouldn't say cheating, but there is a reason, why male and female athletes are separated. Male bodies most of the time have a physical advantage over woman's bodies. What gender you identify with, doesn't change the nature of your physical body.
This creates an philosophical problem, since woman, who were born with a male body, could keep there natural advantage, which would be unfair for woman, who were born with a woman's body. Do we sort people, how they were born or how they are identify with now?

We group people in different section, since they have different limits. So "woman" and "male" disciplines are technical just limit-group names to begin with. Maybe those groups needs to be updated and have more sections, similar to weight classes in boxing.

They banned ketkat because in the mod's minority safe-space discord (not my words) a mod talked about how asexuals "weren't really a part" of the LGBTQIA movement. ketkat saw this (because she was/is in a relationship with a former mod and they shared computers) and made a post that, very briefly and without naming names, mentioned that mods still needed to grow.

Then all the trans people used it as an opportunity to attack mods for "transphobia" and "going light on transphobes".
