Dying isn't some beautiful moment of clarity, an actual abuser wanting a last moment of closure before their death can be a selfish, emotional drain.
When you've committed to cutting someone off it's often better to keep it going strong than meander a bit back into bullshit.
sure, but I'm applying a chunk of "OP always makes themself look best" rule to what they said, and the way they led with their family being trump supporters rather than the drug addict part.
Obviously 'no retreat no surrender' era are going to near-unanimously peddle their own misery onto as many others as they can, but the fact OP is even asking about it suggests its not as clear cut as portrayed, and if there is any hope of reconciliation its probably worth taking. People can change.
