Did some reading on a supposed stat site to see how things are going.

Some good news, the more cases build up, the more the recovered rate trends upwards.

Bad however, is the noticeably higher death rate for pre-existing conditions and the elderly.
However, I'd note that is likelier for elderly and signification health conditions to overlap.

Current estimates put it as being a rather nasty flu but final % is way too early to call.

Just bought hand sanitizer. I never use it (or antibacterial soap) because it kills good germs but in this case I make zero exceptions.

Hand sanitizer is pretty useless unless you want to "wash" your hands every 5 mins while outside.

Washing your hands (properly) is going to be just as efficient otherwise.

Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol if you can't find spray disinfectant.  People tend to forget it's also a disinfectant. Try to buy a high %. Get an empty spray bottle, fill it a quarter of the way with the alcohol, the rest of the way with water. Good for surfaces. You can dilute it even further down to 90/10 water/alcohol if you want to carry a little bottle with you for your hands, it doesn't take much (but it's definitely going to dry out your skin). A couple of bottles will last you a long time, and it's cheap.

Not yet but I saw a thing about "work from home plan" or up on a screen in a conference room on Friday. Albeit there are at least 2 different corporate entities in the same building.

I hope they do, I like working from home. Although, the health department here thinks it's currently well controlled, so not much chance of that yet.

We did have a woman come home from Iran though and she went to work the next day as a beauty therapist and saw 40 clients before being diagnosed that night. That's got some potential to fuck the situation up enough for a general work from home advisory.

My parents told me that the Asian community are hoarding rice because they think there will be a shortage soon due to the trade restrictions the Corona virus will have.

What I'm saying is that you need to short big rice.

We are light yellow there, but we just had a doctor, walking around patients for a full week, with mucho corona in him.

Gonna lay low here in Seattle and stay home as much as possible until my surgery on the 20th. I have a consultation day with a few CT scans on the 9th at the hospital, so I'll ask more questions then but I'm guessing that my immune system is compromised due to the mitral valve regurgitation/leaking that I'm currently experiencing. Gotta love having open heart surgery in the middle of a global pandemic.  :lol

It happens because people either:

A) Aren't getting that sick so they think it's just a cold and don't go see a doctor
B) Don't go see a doctor because can't afford it, or are just dumb
C) The doctors seeing these patients aren't testing them
D) The tests the doctors are using aren't accurate

They figure it's been here in the Pacific Northwest for at least six weeks now, which isn't surprising with that one guy who had it up in Everett.

fwiw, I'm sure it's here in LA and So Cal as well. They just haven't been testing enough people but I bet it's in every major city in the US.
This thing is more contagious than the flu (2.0-2.5) at 3.0-3.5 transmission rate. It's going to be everywhere in the USA and the world.

Because people don't necessarily show symptoms like a fever or cough and because it can have transmission before symptoms show the only way the USA, or any other country could have prevented this would've been to close all ports and not allow anyone from any country in period until this thing clears up. But that would instantly destroy the global economy so yeah that's not gonna happen and diseases like this are unpreventable from spreading in modern countries.

Alternatively, China could've got on this faster and quarantined Wuhan and not allow anyone to leave until Wuhan was clear, but they didn't until too late, so whoops.

The Team Lead for my volunteer design sprint group just got back from a work trip to Tokyo and he's now on a self-imposed 2 week quarantine. He said he feels fine but wants to be considerate and his employer supports it.

Feeling very fortunate to have the luxury of a work from home User Research gig at the moment. Our player base is global so I'm mostly doing user research via Skype and Discord.

When I was at the Fast & Furious Musical stage play last night the lady sitting in the seat right behind me was coughing everytime she laughed and it was a productive phlegm cough.

I'm probably already doomed.  :(

My parents were like "we're stocking up on suppllies and not going to any movie theaters until this is over" and like I can't blame them because I swear this happens a lot at any seated event where someone behind you is coughing on you. Probably not the worst idea of things to avoid besides crowded places.

I have an indie concert on the 15th, still planning on going since I hang in the back anyhow these days cause I'm too old for pits, so should be ok.
I have some follow up doctor appointments at ENT offices that I'm delaying since they're non-urgent and I feel like an ENT office is a real bad place to be right now.

Yeah I've got my oral surgeon appointment tomorrow. Didn't even think about that.

It's A).
Compared to SARS, the symptoms are pretty mild in most cases.

My wife sent me to Costco on Thursday to stock up on stuff. It was really calm, even for a Thursday morning. That same Costco was fucking cleared out of everything this weekend.  :lol

She just got back from a work trip to the home office in Boston, they've got international travel bans in place but have yet to outlaw travel within the country. She's wondering when that will happen.

It’s with Kaiser, for me. They’re usually completely incompetent even when things are normal. They’ll probably end up injecting me with it and pretending like I asked for it and charging me for it. They really made me lose anything resembling respect for health care workers since I now know just how incompetent they can be, at every level. They don’t appear to have any hiring standards.

Thanks! It's gonna be ok. After a couple years of listening to me complain about stairs/hills and not being able to run anymore, my cardiology team finally told me that the valve repair they did on me back in 2017 wasn't successful so they're gonna go in and give me a mechanical mitral valve replacement this time. Just happens to be awesome timing with everything else that's going on in the world.

I see so many people saying,"it's going to be okay it only kills the elderly and children and people with chronic conditions!"

But my grandma is 80, my parents are over 60 and many of my aunts and uncles. I know many people with toddlers.

It's really frustrating when people handwaive it all away. Everyone knows someone who is elderly or sick or medically fragile or has a compromised immune system.

I work out five days a week, I don't smoke, I eat well and take good care of myself. I have a congenital heart valve defect. I didn't ask to fucking have this. Those assholes can go fuck themselves.

Kids older than 5 are actually totally good unless they have underlying health issues. They tend to not have the Ace receptors in their lungs that are a result of age or damage that the virus latches on to.
