Hoarding canned soup is a rookie mistake. That‘s not even enough calories for a day and takes up space.
Meanwhile I can survive off a pack of flour for at least three days :karen

Heading back into work for another round of “How can I wait tables while touching as little as possible.”  Can’t wait for all of the geriatrics to inform me that they are in a hurry because they need to get to the performing arts center.

Yeah, I know you’re in a hurry to go mingle with the thousands of other old folks who just had to go see Les Miserables today, but your gonna have to wait because I need to go scrub my hands.

They still haven't decided to shut down our main office yet, despite all this concern...

...but they did just tell us that everyone on my team is now 100% remote until further notice.  Might only be a week, might be for a few weeks, but-

:rejoice

Sleeping in later every morning and not having to deal with ATL highways on Mondays and Tuesdays
:lawd

I don't understand companies talking about wfh like it's a 2-3 week thing. Or places like Disneyland shutting down for 15 days.

This thing isn't going to suddenly be gone in 3 weeks. I think realistically anything closing or companies doing wfh to make a difference it's going to have to continue for 6-12 months.

It's about spreading the infection curve, so the health system doesn't collapse.
You can't stop the infection, but you can slow it down as much as possible.

Also apparently the supermarket run has hit here. I'm pretty stocked up for a few months, so hopefully that gets better in a month or two.

On one hand, it's surprising that my state (Ohio) appears to be one of the more proactive states in the country in treating this thing seriously.

On the other hand, it's probably due of the decades of depression and low morale among the populace,  so we just assume the worst.

Italy latest daily death toll at 250, toll rising faster day-by-day. Almost 25% of total fatalities which is now at 5408.

To balance, some seemingly good news, in a sense, high asymptotic count. Which could suggest total infected counts are lowballed by a good margin which decreases true mortality.

Yeah there was a lot of early carriers here that had little to no symptoms. But that also made them infect a shit load of others.  :doge

The main place Danish people got infected from, was a ski resort in Austria. At a bar there, the bartender used a whistle to get through the crowd of people every night, and some of the bar guests also blew the whistle several times for whatever reason.... they all came home without symptoms, and infected a whole bunch of people. Some big brain shit there. :lol

My mom finally decided to head home from Cebu as well. We closed our borders for all none Danes.  :doge

They're treating it on a weekly basis, at least in my office.  But it helps a lot that my firm is already all ready to go in regards to working remotely and it's easy for just about anyone working there to do so.

What are some good cheap remote desktop apps?

I'm using teamviewer which I used a couple years ago, but now it disconnects with the free version after a couple hours and it wants $50/month for a 1 user sub to keep it from disconnecting which is a lot of fucking money :| Gotta be something cheaper that works as good.

From what I'm hearing, the reason for all the local quarantining is because they want the virus to spread as slowly as possible. My brother said that in his hospital, they were talking about how maybe 5% of patients need to be intubated which requires a bed in the ICU ward, which are very limited. So the goal is to space out the infection as much as possible so that they don't run out of ICU capacity.

But realistically, 12-18 months before this particular virus is under control with a vaccine of any kind.

What are some good cheap remote desktop apps?

Aren't you a lawyer? I've never worked in a legal office but that seems like one of the most remoteable jobs in the world.

To answer your question, I've only used the VNC remote software app and it worked well. Pricing seems pretty reasonable too:

https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/pricing/

If you haven't already, the trickiest thing is having good filepath organization for all the papers that y'all keep...on file. So infuriating when you can't find where someone saved something from years earlier.

My team at work officially voted to work from home today. Our corporate office has been WFH since earlier in the week, but we are in a building maintained by a different arm of the corporate machine, and that arm is unable to shut down (gotta keep filming those movies!) so the office remains open. However we were the only people on our floor there today, so it just sort made sense I guess.

The plus side is that it was the day they restock the snacks and since no one else was there I got a ton of free protein bars!

They still haven't decided to shut down our main office yet, despite all this concern...

...but they did just tell us that everyone on my team is now 100% remote until further notice.  Might only be a week, might be for a few weeks, but-

China's quarantine last 50 something days and they got their shit together a lot faster than the US is going to. No one has any idea how long this will last and some scientists have said it will die down some and possibly comeback again in the fall.

Anyone or anywhere that is thinking this is a simple 2 week ordeal is in for rough times.

I already worked from home 100% of the time and hate people, so my likelihood of being exposed to the virus is going to be limited to grocery store trips, which I will cut back on heavily in the near future. Atlanta has gone full idiot and people are hoarding food and especially toilet paper (wtf) so I don't want to venture out to the store until that shit calms down in the next couple days. Gonna play Langrisser and watch porn, so basically a normal life for me.
