Ontario numbers are 165+ and 2 Deaths.  https://covid-19-status.ca/on.html

It's slowly going down but that tail end is really hard to squash.

9,500 new Florida coronavirus cases reported Friday; 67 new deaths

reddit says 17.7% positivity rate, but I don't know if that is just new/total or how Florida usually calculates it recent_new/total.

But schools are going to reopen in a month. :trumps

Yeah, there's this mistaken notion somehow kids can't get COVID, or that they're mostly immune. It is true so far that most children identified so far being positive with coronavirus are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, but that doesn't mean coronavirus can't affect children.

Orange County Board of Education is going to release guidance that masks and social distancing can't happen with students. Cases among school staff and students are going to explode once schools are back.

https://laist.com/2020/07/03/coronavirus_orange_county_schools_masks_students.php

Quote
If Orange County public schools resume in-person instruction in the fall, the county's Department of Education has advised schools to "encourage" students to wear masks and face coverings "to the extent feasible."

But several members of Orange County's elected Board of Education have voiced skepticism about the scientific consensus that masks help prevent the spread of COVID-19 — and they think the department's guidelines don't strike the appropriate balance.

Board members are now moving to publish their own set of guidelines that — according to this document — will advise OC schools that "requiring children to wear masks during school is not only impossible to implement but not based on science and could be potentially harmful." Another guideline: social distancing is "unacceptable."

Those forthcoming guidelines in particular have touched off a backlash. In a letter last week, more than 600 parents, students and alumni of Orange County schools accused the board of "gross misinterpretation of the available evidence" about masks and social distancing.

Quote
Sometime in early June, however — after Gov. Gavin Newsom indicated that he would loosen the social distancing restrictions — Lopez said Macias attended a party in Lake Elsinore, about 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

Afterward, a friend of Macias who was also at the party contacted him to say he had tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, Lopez said.

The friend told Macias he was aware of the diagnosis when he attended the gathering, but because he was not showing symptoms, he did not believe he could infect anyone else.

The friend advised everyone who attended the party to get tested.

Naturally, Lopez said, Macias was upset. Still, he said, Macias took accountability for his actions as evidenced in his Facebook post.

Lopez said he was unsure how many people went to the party, but that Macias was among more than a dozen people who contracted COVID-19.

Macias visited his sister Veronica, who is married to Lopez, on June 11 at the couple's home, before he was tested. Lopez remembers being concerned for Macias after that visit.

"He did not look right," Lopez said. "He was really sweaty."

Dude got killed by his friend.

His friend should be charged.

but seriously, as to the guy that died, why would you go out to a goddamned PARTY when you apparently were following the lockdown orders early on? it seems some people NEED to be told what to do, sadly.

The navy keeps sailors at sea for only a few months. Why? Because being stuck in one place for too long does actual mental toil. This is why if we had actual national leadership early we could have contained this. Now it's July and many people have been at home without jobs and nothing to do for months. After a certain point you'll get tired of it and become more lax.

Even I, who wanted to keep safe this entire time, went to protests. The longer this goes on the more people will die, because no one is built for lockdown shit for too long without going stir crazy. We need to contain it immediately for that reason.

A Clay County Judge has ruled in favor of Rep. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia), voiding Gov. JB Pritzker's executive orders in response to COVID-19.

"This is a victory for freedom. This is a victory for the people of Illinois," Bailey said Thursday.

Over two hours of debate in the Clay County courthouse led to Judge Michael McHaney ruling Pritzker's executive orders since April 8 are now invalid. That comes from Bailey's argument that Pritzker's emergency powers ran out 30 days after his initial emergency declaration.

That's not the message senior administration officials said they're preparing, and some of the president's allies have cringed when he's talked in the past about the virus disappearing, only to then see it further spread.
Quote
One official said moving the briefing locations is an attempt to minimize questions from the White House press corps. Another said it was also designed to prevent Trump from being tempted to take over the briefings.
Quote
Some of Trump's allies had lamented that he was hurting himself politically by spending sometimes two hours at the podium sparring with reporters and often veering off topic, rather than conveying a specific message about the pandemic.

Two days ago there was this: Trump's aides debate a new virus approach as President claims it will 'disappear'

Quote
Yet despite the clear signs of trouble, Trump and his aides appear split over whether the President should spend more time and energy in confronting the pandemic.

Trump himself suggested in an interview Wednesday the virus may take care of itself.

"I think we're going to be very good with the coronavirus. I think that at some point that's going to sort of just disappear," he said.

Meadows, Kushner and White House counselor Hope Hicks continue to recommend that Trump largely steer clear of the issue. Pence and trade adviser Peter Navarro are pushing the President to take on a more active role, warning the soaring number of cases could cause major disruptions across the country, according to one adviser as well as one other source close to the White House.

Sounds like we're finding out who won that debate. The upside is after another week of shitty polling they'll be back to the drawing board.

SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea is considering including religious facilities on the same list with nightclubs, hostess bars and karaoke rooms as “high risk” venues for the spread of COVID-19 following a slew of transmissions tied to church gatherings.

South Korean Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said during a virus meeting on Wednesday that more than 40% of the country’s newly confirmed infections over the previous three days have been traced back to places of worship.

He pleaded people to refrain from religious gatherings and criticized churches and other facilities for failing to implement proper preventive measures, such as requiring followers to wear masks and sit apart during services.

Places that should be closed until there is a vaccine: gyms, bars, buffets, stadiums, concerts venues, movie theaters, amusement parks, and places of worship.

New York state cases the last four days: 508, 769, 1035, 1134.

This is with many things still closed, high mask usage, and 20% of the state infected (this would reduce the R0 by 20% correct?).

I've been struggling so much because of this period of time. Lost an Aunt, been trying to take care of my "recovered" father and his wife as safely as possible, lost all prospects in getting back into the job market, and other things. It's taken its toll on others I'm sure, but this shit just doesn't end. Now my father is saying to others that it wasn't that bad, it didn't nearly take more than 4 weeks in the ICU for you to get out of the hospital and you still aren't well right?! He wouldn't stop and reconsider having people over for his 60th birthday, so I'm done with him. Still supporting the great leader our divider n chief to the grave!

It took New York over 2 months with one of the more stringent lockdowns in order to finally feel okay enough to reopen (and their numbers still aren't flat enough to feel like there won't be another peak happening). Florida isn't going to shutdown either it seems.

The thinking seems to be that the death rate is down even though infections are up so it is safe as long as there aren't many deaths.
The very same mistake the UK and the Netherlands made early on in this crisis with 'herd immunity'.

Even though the US indeed has implemented widespread testing (and most of Europe hasn't) which equals a higher number of reported cases
we now know that there's a delay between contracting the virus, getting symptoms and requiring medical care.
People who got tested positive may not have symptoms now but could develop those within 7 - 14 days.

The United States is basically playing Russian Roulette with the virus. Hoping that all those infections don't develop into symptoms or worse.

Ohio had its first 0 death day, but it’s still getting about 1000 new cases a day which is double what the average had been the 4 weeks prior.

All three major cities have made masks mandatory and so did Dayton. I imagine Toledo would’ve too, but half their city council got arrested by the FBI. Lol
