Patients with gum disease are more likely to experience severe, potentially life-threatening complications if they contract COVID-19 and need to be hospitalized, according to a new report published online in the Journal of the California Dental Association.

Chronic gum disease, or periodontitis, is characterized by swollen, bleeding gums and bone loss. It produces a bacteria that releases a harmful protein known as IL-6 (interleukin-6). IL-6 is an inflammatory cytokine that can trigger the out-of-control reaction of the immune system known as a cytokine storm.

The report referenced the findings of a German study of 40 hospitalized COVID-19 patients published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in May. It concluded that patients with elevated IL-6 levels were 22 times more likely to suffer respiratory failure and require mechanical ventilation.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, nearly 80% of patients placed on ventilators in the United States have died, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Gum disease has been linked to other breathing ailments, including pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) so we weren’t surprised to find a link to respiratory problems with COVID-19,” said Dr. Shervin Molayem, a U.S. dental surgeon based in Los Angeles
and founder of the UCLA Dental Research Journal, in a news release last week.

“What shocked us was the discovery of the protein’s devastating, life-threatening impact to patients once they’re hospitalized. One tiny, inflammatory protein robbed them of their ability to breathe,” he said.

Molayem and Dr. Carla Pontes, a scientist and health care researcher in South Africa, expanded upon the German study’s results for their Mouth-Covid Connection report. They noted that IL-6 can disrupt capillary blood gas exchange in the lungs, contributing to pulmonary failure.

I had to visit the Dentist about 6 times from May to August because I chipped my front tooth, and needed a root canal, a crown, and 8 fillings. Out about $2092 because I have shitty Metlife HMO for my dental.

And also I'm asthmatic and the medicine I took as a kid were also very bad for my teeth.

The more I learn about it, the more I'm convinced that this bio weapon was somehow engineered specifically to kill me.

MOORE, Okla. (KFOR) – A Moore Public Schools student came to school while knowingly having COVID-19.

School administration officials learned that the Westmoore High School student came to school on Thursday, according to a letter that school district officials sent to parents.

“Once administrators were made aware of the student’s health situation yesterday evening, MPS Nurses and the health department were immediately involved,” the letter states.

School personnel investigated the matter and learned that the student’s parents were mistaken about the student’s end of quarantine date.

New infections are still growing every day in France but so far hospital admissions and ICU use is still down. I didn't follow articles closely but it's perhaps an effect of a larger testing net and less vulnerable demographics driving the surge. Purely anecdotal but teens and young adults sort of resumed social events and sometimes aren't too thorough mask wise.

My wife got strong-armed into coming back to teach.

Even though they presented to the teachers like they had different options on how they return, how its played out is much different. She was thoughtful and gave them advance warning that she was electing to use her personal days to miss the first 8 weeks, then they told her they were going to fold her children into the other classes instead of hiring a permanent sub. When she comes back she will have no class/no children, so she will have to become a spot filler for the remainder of the year. This is after being in the same position for 25 years.

She would have to go through the grievance process to get it corrected which could take months and end up causing more stress. So, now she's going to come back to the shit show and be a guinea pig.

Not looking for sympathy, just giving you some insight on what's going on behind the scenes of certain schools.
