The reason appears to be that he was so mad about Woodward's first book that he swore to be directly involved if Woodward were to do another book, believing he would be able to shape the narrative into a far more positive book. Despite EVERYONE on his team telling him this was a bad idea and multiple staff members and aides publicly saying so at the time and since.

But the ratings. The ratings were great, the best you'd ever see.
And in a way, he's not wrong.

I'm hopeful it's counterproductive for the general election, but on the other hand it probably plays into his irreductible support among his base and it may have irremediably have damaged any political discussion that needs more than a day to be conducted.

Not to go all Trump but part of it is probably because the testing is getting a lot more intense. Purely anecdotal but from my own direct experience, there's a lot more demand for it (during lockdown tests were allocated, you couldn't get one because you felt like it so to speak) and the capacity ramped up. There's lines at 7am to get tested at a lab I pass in front of to work.

As I imagined, the number of detected cases booming back up but without the same casualties is maybe a result of :
- More asymptomatic people being tested.
- Less vulnerable demographics affected.
- Better hospital and medical protocols and triage even without a medication to help.
But no definitive certainties.

Entries in hospitals and ICUs trending up again is bad though, no way around that.

Crowds in public transport are back to almost normal levels in Paris. There's people in bars and restaurants, even if more sparse. A lot of workers are back in the office. Masks and some half assed distancing guidelines probably help, but not to the extent of keeping that curve flat.

What Trump does better than any other politician is to guide the narrative.
This is one of those things, where he just flat-out admits something any other politician would deny, throwing the media in a tailspin and shifting the focus to Woodward for not warning everyone the President is a lunatic and west wing gossip.

Biden is losing grip on this, while before he successfully distanced himself from the circus.
All recent Biden interviews have basically started and ended with him responding to Trump's policies or Trump's actions.

I mean, you guys sometimes think that Trump is the only one following the 'Dummies guide to COVID-19' but it really is a sort of global thing.
The UK is in the biggest trouble of all of Europe right now , they've already cancelled Christmas and gatherings of more than 5 people.
With fines over a 1000 pounds for those that break the rules.

But there's also the general belief that "more testing = more cases". And indeed, we are doing more testing now.
