If you didn't like any of the games that came out in 2007, you're probably a miserabl- oh never mind that makes total sense, carry on.
Depending on your tastes 2007 may not have done much for you, personally from what I recall 2007 wasn't really all that special for me, 2006 and 8 were more memorable... so I'd hardly put it up on the "greatest year ever". Also making things hard are staggered release dates, that awesome RPG you loved could have been a Japan-only release in 2007 but you played it when it came to the west in 2008. Or when you have definitive editions/patches that come out a bit later... Witcher 1 being the perfect example. The original was 2007 but the enhanced edition that followed a year later was so much better.
It may not take the best year ever spot, but you would have to be pretty contrarian to call it one of the worst years.
The 360 was probably at its peak, with Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Lost Odyssey released within months of each other. Wii had its best year with Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, and Metroid Prime 3. PS3 was relatively weak but still had multiplatform stuff like VF5 and Orange Box.
Even the PS2 was killing it with Persona 3 Fes and more obscure stuff like BOFV, Chulip, etc.
Hmm, yeah and I'm actually surprised Morrigan didn't like Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey - since from what I've seen, she's into RPGs with more toned down sexuality and animu. Although I looked and both LO and P3 Fes got US releases in 2008... and BOF5 had its US release back in 2003 (I -knew- I played it before 2007!). But yeah 2006 and 8 were both more memorable than 7 for me, overall.
I think for me the worst post-crash years would be from 2011 to 2014... this time was when I started to lose a lot of interest in then-current games and was fearful that things wouldn't get better, causing a negative chain reaction increasing my apathy towards gaming. It seemed that the anti-Japanese-gaming movement was at its peak in the west (especially among game "journalists") and thus a lot of Japanese companies were skittish on localizing games. The 360/PS3/Wii/DS/PSP were all winding down and starting to feel long-in-the-tooth, the 3DS had a bit of a failure to launch early on, the WiiU and Vita were practically stillbirths. PS4 and Xbone libraries also felt slow on the uptake, and there was a huge narrative that mobile/gatcha gaming would crush everything in its path, especially wrt Japanese gaming. There were a few bright spots but nothing mindblowing (I'd say out of this period, 3D World was a personal favorite, along with finally getting long overdue US releases of Trails in the Sky, Ys Origin, Soul Hackers, and Xenoblade).
Interest in gaming can also decline due to personal stuff as well, if you're going through a rough batch, it's easy to lose interest regardless of how good games are that year.
