James if I give you 100 bucks to play with, how long will it take you to turn that into a cool million with your newfound stonks knowledge?

You can keep the 100 bucks in that scenario btw

What happens if I lose the $100

I think you misunderstood, you owe me a million no matter what.

If everyone on this forum gives me money I can make it happen

Iv and theta are critical for options trading but I have no idea what they mean

Yeah, 'the greeks' are really important: Theta, Delta, Vega, Gamma.  Theta is a measure of how much an option decays in value over time as it reaches expiration if bought (or increases in value if you're selling).  Options put risk on time, which means you can purchase contracts with very little margin, with the caveat risk of being 'out of the money' at the strike of your sale, losing everything.   IV is the expected volatility of the option based on the past volatility and affects the value of the option.  High IV produces high priced option premiums and vice versa.  The rise and fall of implied volatility will determine the amount of theta decay along with the total pricing -- so making trades with expectations of IV movement increase success of the trade.  Delta is an expressed ratio for the option value in respect to the underlying asset - so it indicates how sensitive option prices are to the stock itself. Vega determines how sensitive an underlying is to the changes of IV.  Gamma measures how sensitive Vega is - just like how acceleration is the second derivative, it's measuring the change(accel) of the change(velocity) of the asset price(position).

The big takeaway here is that the Math PhDs at the Renaissance Fund and other hedge funds that are using differential equations to code the most efficient pricing algorithms per movement are wasting their time not refreshing WallStreetBets subreddit.

Edit:  No idea how to trade like WSB.  Wouldn't be able to help you with that.  Nobody knows what direction the market will go. Making huge gambles on short-term directional trades works if you're Moneybags McGee that can Martingale your way out of a down position, otherwise I don't see how it's sustainable.  When it comes to options, I do really conservative spread trading on wide, long-term positions, exiting long before expiry.  Using a rudimentary scanner for anomalies in IV, and take a bunch of long-term trades.  IE: Selling a front month strike and buying a further ITM strike on the month after that and earning a small credit on theta on the value of the short as it moves favorably with IV, with a hedge from the buy.  You earn money as long as the position doesn't move too far from those strikes - instead of from a directional gamble.  Taking advantage of things like this over many trades adds up.  I don't make an exciting amount of money doing it, though.

15% on a really good year.  I don't make much doing this, and managing this stupid thing has gotten old after 10+ years.  I'm at the point where I'm only using options as a hedge on futures because I would rather spend my time doing more important things every morning like reading the shitpost thread.   :smug

Good timing boys.

UAL just had a midday pump so I bought some April puts because the feds can't do anything to force them to not bleed money out the ass.

The order cost like $300 something so it will be easy to track - basically we will split the profit 3 ways.
