Wait I've been under the assumption this was another post-irony millennial thing, people actually expected GameStop stock to cross $1k? :dead

It crossed $500. I don't know about 1K, but it would've gone a lot higher if Robinhood and other brokers didn't start severely limiting trading.

Yeah, this was definitely iced out by a few factors. I never held GME, but I do own some amc with an average buy of like $12. So go see a movie when covid is over, please  :P

Im super bummed and I still came out with a profit. Cant imagine how people who bought at the top feel.

:fbm

What a disaster this has been.

Breh, it's the same scam that's been run a billion times for thousands of years. The people who bought in early when it was cheap come out on top, the people who bought in late when the price was skyrocketing come out with zilch. Same as it ever was.

This is true, I'd add that there was a lot of momentum from everyday sources of misery that made this a very hyped event.

Pandemic that adds a dreary mononity to life
Pandemic that's also affected income
The narrative of this fucking over billionaires
How easy it is to buy stock nowadays

I've known a little bit of stock trading from random sources, but there was some endorphin chasing thing in my brain that felt the urge to fuck around, justify trying to play the game.

I thought AMC was gonna have a similar but not as substantial spike based on hype apes. Installed cash app, did very basic verification, and was able to buy stock very quickly and very easily. You just need to link a debit card and....if you're not careful, you can invest an entire bank account in seconds.

Drug overdoses and suicide rates have skyrocketed with this pandemic. The idea of gambling money from your phone, very easily, hits a part of the brain that stimulates really risky decision making.

OH!

Thought experiment: if WSB had put all their effort and money towards buying lottery tickets, what are the odds they would have been overall more successful?

I suppose pre-tax, a billion dollars spread across their 8.3 mil members (assuming all participated) would only equal $120.48 per person (assuming 1 lottery ticket per person), but that's likely better than the massive losses everyone is seemingly experiencing right now.

On the chance that it does rebound for the big squeeze still, I grabbed a GME when it hit $98 and set a sell order for it.  If this truly is the end of zombie Shakespeare, I don’t mind being out the hundo.

I am not a smart man but I was a lucky motherfucker this week

some of the swings look big but all total it only amounted to a few hundred

all were on separate days so I didn't get dinged for day trading

all of it was due to people screaming BUY BUY IT'S GOING TO THE MOON then having second thoughts and bailing

I should not have done any of this but it mysteriously worked out  :dizzy

Not from you but from those pushing the "this would be diamonds if not for those evil Robinhood people" narrative.

they effectively squashed the possibility of a 2nd short squeeze fueled by retail investors by suspending trading.

whether it would've happened if they didn't do anything.. who knows. but they are doing their best to make sure it doesn't atm.

it's not just robinhood either.

AMC couldn't be traded on cash app today. GME and AMC pulled from multiple websites and apps. Better yet:

Media outlets saying WSB were pushing for silver investing, meanwhile, on the actual subreddit, anyone bringing up silver was shit on and posts shilling for silver being almost instantly deleted, painted a very clear picture.

When 99% of the posts in front of you are "HOLD GME, WE APES, HOLD GME, DONT GET DISTRACTED. BE APE. HOLD"

And then media outlets run that these hype apes were trying to get people to invest in silver?

It's not even "well journalism sucks lol what do you expect". It's straight up a narrative being fabricated by investment websites.

It crossed $500. I don't know about 1K, but it would've gone a lot higher if Robinhood and other brokers didn't start severely limiting trading.

Sounds like sour grapes tbh.

You've really lost the plot when you start talking yourself into Gamestop being a valuable company.

Quote
It really is simple, even if the volatility slows and we sit in the 90-110 area, the company is vastly changing. They have capital, their financials aren’t bad, the motherfucking CHEWY founder is on the board. If it takes a little while for you to break even, so be it. This has turned into a cult stock, you think Tesla’s financials match their stock price? FUCK NO.

Just hold if you can hold, if you need to pay your rent and pull then you shouldn’t have been playing with your money like this.

HOLD IDIOTS, AND LETS GET WSB BACK TO BEING OPTION TRADERS
