Systemic racism is certainly an issue in Germany even though it isn’t as blatantly visible. But I am so pedantic that I have to disagree with Piesche‘s notion that „Germaness“ is a product of the enlightenment. This is just a false claim that is easily refuted, since the notion of a shared German identity can be traced back to Medieval times. Martin Luther was called the modern day Arminius in contemporary works, proving that Tacitus‘ Germania made a lasting impact that has endured over the centuries.
God, I hate being so pedantic when I actually agree with her.
edit: Most European states still see(or did until very recently) themselves as Ethnostates though, clearly visible on the fact that most have ius sanguinis as the only way to obtain citizenship.
