No one says the mods haven't made mistakes in the past, but as of this thread, it's blatantly clear to me that there is an aspect of the community that has no intentions of actually cooperating or empathizing with mods, ever, regardless of what they say. No one can deny that the mods haven't been the subject of harassment campaigns, doxing, and demaning and dehumanizing behavior, and anyone that treats that as "blame shifting" instead of a problem atleast as serious as venting in the privacy of your own discord has no intention of actually making things better. My idea of better is finding a way to neutralize those kinds of people's influence.The one thing you say that is true is that things won't get better until the community and the moderation team is able to work in good faith, but the real first step to that is dealing with users who have no intention of ever dealing in good faith, and those users aren't on the mod team.

I can’t believe people there are so shocked that era clear was a money making scheme lol. I do have one of those subs for a different smaller forum and am 100% aware the like €2 a month is going straight into the owners pockets, but somehow none of those geniuses knew that for era? A forum for intellectuals.
How do these mods reconcile being proud of not getting paid for a "job" they all claim inflict mental trauma on them on a daily basis and is enriching the owner class and their "fuck millionaires, pay workers a fair wage, unionize!" politics? How can any of them go into a thread about, say, managers cheating workers and show support when they encourage this exploitation firsthand?

The mods didn't choose the distinction between public and private venting for no reason. They did it because, as mods, they are targets of harassment campaigns and doxxing on a scale different from most users.The equivalent of this is would be not you just complaining about "a server" to your Facebook group, it would be you providing identifying information to a Facebook group while knowing that identifying information could then be used and picked up by stalkers who could endanger my life.
The difference is one is at a significantly greater threat of organized harassment campaigns.
I would like to say, and in no way to diminish anyone else being harassed but some of us non mods were targeted by KiwiFarms due to our involvement in the discussion surrounding Cyberpunk2077, to the point where I genuinely feared for my family.
As a member of PoliEra I would appreciate people not taking what happened there as a bludgeon to attack and be as toxic as hell towards every single mod and staff member.And I say this as someone still very raw over it. Please don't.

Are YOU familiar with the media create thread? Because they gave the rationale for why a private discord venting is allowed but public twitter isn't. And it's one I agree with.
There's a massive different between posting tweets or public posts from offsite on era that anyone can find and see and posting private discords conversations that very few have permission to see. There's also the fact that there's no twitter rule stating people can't share tweets offsite. There's also the fact that the discord of which the post was screenshot prohibts any taking of screenshots of posts or sharing said screenshots.The former inherently comes with the expectation that it's public and everyone can see it and there are no expectations of privacy, the later is private and the expectations of privacy are there.
It seems like instead of a mass exodus like shower-gate, the forum just keeps on splintering into smaller forums.
