undamentally it's associating the act of play with speculative investment. It's a capitalist maneuver to colonize on the idea of "having fun." And the people who think it will be a solution to inequity do not understand that it is a vehicle to exploit one of the few remaining things in our lives that don't have to be encroached upon by money anxiety. Capitalism will invariably do this as it runs out of resources to exploit, but we have an opportunity to nip it in the bud as much as we can.

I was selling an Xbox Series X on Facebook and some guy offered to buy it via cash cash transfer and collect it. When he showed up with his buddy, my hubby helped him enter the correct bank details for the payment, then the guy "sent" the payment and showed us a legitimate looking payment confirmation screen. My husband, worried about scammers, wasn't about to let him leave with the Xbox until the money was actually in his account though, which is supposed to transfer instantly, but the guy was getting increasingly rude and agitated over the next several minutes about it. I thought they were gonna snatch it and run at some point, but my husband took it far away from them to avoid that. The money never did show up and the guy stormed out of our house, saying he was gonna call the cops because he got scammed, although my other half called the cops on him instead and put pics and video of them on Facebook.

Kinda crazy how brazen scammers can be these days; I guess just be careful if you are buying / selling with strangers.
