It comes from the same place that insists that the existence of minorities must be overly justified to the ever-moving criteria set by people who never actually cared about representation in the first place. "They're not marketable." "They're not relatable." "You're messing with the artist's vision." "You're bringing politics into an apolitical art form." These are all excuses to keep the medium as white as possible, because you knowingly cannot continue LARPing that you're biased against (or God forbid, oppressed) for being a gamer and that the medium is your safe space the moment a Black person enters the fray. Minorites break a lot of the implied consensus and customs of gaming culture just by their very existence, hence the continued pushback against their inclusion and accurate representation.
here's the thing though, I'm not mad that bollywood doesn't make movies pandering to
me because I'm not indian and not part of that culture
say you're oblivious to culture and you make three movies to be released in india, one is about the plight of black people in america, one is an adaptation of wuthering heights, and one is a thoroughly indian movie full of songs and choreography
your indian movie performs the best at the box office
is there anything wrong with scratching your stupid head and saying "well shucks I guess I'll make more movies about india?"
if bollywood WANTS to pander to me I'm not saying no, if they feel strongly that they're leaving a lot of money on the table by not targeting my dollars, sure, make the attempt, but that's their decision to make
17% of americans are hispanic, 12% are black, 6% are asian, 3% are gay or lesbian, 1% are native american, 1% are muslim, so forgive me if I'm not surprised that less entertainment media is made to specifically target these groups
a smart businessman will make sure at least not to offend them and try to capture those dollars, but I'm not in favor of outrage-based compulsory mass market art creation
