My dad (his mom was where the Mexican roots came from) never embraced his Latino heritage and I never forgave him for raising me without any links to that culture.
Mexican culture, specifically mestizo Mexican culture, is government made and pushed after the war of Independence. Most mestizos are probably not actual descendants of the Aztecs, almost every cultural and historical stuff from the PreConquista has been lost and what is left was reinterpreted by European Catholics, most indigenous tribes still existing in the country are excluded and are practically second class citizens, most of the perceived LatinAmerican culture in the US is also made up to an extent (nobody here gives a shit of Cinco de Mayo).
Your roots are not that deep. Doesn’t mean there is not good or interesting things… but is laughable to get mad to your parent about it when the main cultural differences are religious based.
